The leaves in the trees jolted as Ellie flew past them, the air resistance she was causing as she rode the bike sending a shockwave towards her surroundings.
Her smile had not left her face, only becoming more menacing as she reached higher speeds, she had missed this feeling of being alive, having found the last few years of her life a bit too menial and repetitive.
She saw Steve's car about to turn at the crossroads just before Reefer Rick's road, so she pressed the accelerator and cut him off so that she was now in front of him. If only she was able to see Steve's face as she did so, the thought of it made her giggle.
She cut the engine as she pulled up in front of the house, and took off her helmet. Eddie was watching her from the window of the boathouse as she removed her hair tie and shook her hair out, she spotted him out of the corner of her eye, so he quickly ducked down and out of sight.
Steve's car pulled up next to her bike. He shoved the car door open and practically fell forwards as he half shouted towards Ellie, "Where the hell did you learn to drive?" Referring to the moments before in which she must've given him a heart attack.
"That was awesome." Dustin giggled as he got out the car.
"Don't you go getting any ideas." Steve pointed at him, reminiscent of the times Ellie's own mother had told her off.
"Apologies, I'll slow down next time, mom." She winked at Steve, pulling her backpack up her shoulders a little bit due to the force that it was putting on them.
Max and Robin removed themselves from the car, Max looking absolutely shattered beyond belief, and Robin looking as though she had spent too long surrounded by kids.
"Hey guys." Ellie grinned, still on a high from her ride over here.
"Hi" Robin greeted as Max did her tight lipped smile and wave, like she always seemed to do.
They all made their way down to the boathouse, supplies for Eddie in hand.
"Jesus!" Eddie shouted as Dustin kicked the door open.
Dustin sported a huge smile as he lifted up the bags he had, "Delivery service!" He joked as the other members of the group stood behind him and smiled/waved at Eddie, who was trying to control his beating heart.
The boathouse seemed a lot less threatening in the day time, actually looking like a rather peaceful hideout as opposed to the looming shadows and dark corners that were surrounding the place last night.
"Hey." Eddie greeted, forming his expression into a deadpan look as he pretended like he hadn't just jumped out of his skin.
"How are you feeling today, bud?" Dustin asked, following him down the right hand side of the boathouse, Steve and Ellie doing the same. Max and Robin went for the left side, creating a sort of semi circle around him as he perched on the seat in the small boat.
"The usual, filled to the brim with existential dread, life hanging in the balance sort of crap. Same old, same old." Eddie told him, a sarcastic smile on his face, "and also starving." He finished.
Steve handed him a bag full of items, which he gratefully took, giving him one of those typical nods that most men give each other in a sign of appreciation.
Ellie pulled her backpack off and dumped it on the floor with a thud, pulling out the crate of beer, one of the two chocolate milkshakes, and the carton of cigarettes that she'd bought him.
His eyes lit up as he spied the milkshake, "thank you so much." He told her as she passed them over, wondering why she bought him a chocolate milkshake, as he didn't think he was the sort of person who looked like he would be craving it. But yet again, she somehow knew.
