"And now we wait." Eddie sighed, leaning his head against the rock.
Ellie looked at him, his head angled towards the sky, eyes closed and his jawline practically cutting through his skin.
"Like what you see?" He asked, sensing her eyes on him.
"Are we going to talk about it?" She responded.
"Talk about what?" Eddie replied, knowing what she was hinting at, but wanting her to hear her say it.
"You kn- never mind." She told him, completely misunderstanding the way he was urging her to repeat every explicit detail, and instead reaching the conclusion that he didn't want to talk about it.
She huffed, standing up and quickly retracting herself from the conversation.
"Hey, wait! Where are you going?" Eddie called to her as she started to walk away.
He began to get up in an attempt to chase after her, before she responded with "Bathroom."
It was in his best interest not to follow her.
————————
Ellie walked around for around 20 minutes, doing a full circle of the perimeter a couple of times, far enough away that Eddie wouldn't hear her feet crunching against the undergrowth.
She cursed at herself for the fact that she let her emotions take control of her. Any boy in Eddie's position last night, would've done the exact same thing, it didn't mean anything. If anything she should've been happy that it stopped when it did, otherwise she would've found herself in the exact same position, but in desperate need of a bath to rid herself of any reminders.
"Fucking boys." She mumbled to herself, hopping onto a large rock the protruded from the ground, and launched herself up towards the tree branch that she'd spotted hanging low.
Her hands gripped the bark and she pulled herself up, twisting her body around to sit on the branch.
She could see Skull Rock from here, and the area that lay before it. If Eddie hadn't been hidden behind the stone, she would've seen him too.
Trauma. That's what it was. Shared trauma, and booze. Why else would he have tried to find comfort in her? They'd literally witnessed a murder together, and they were both feeling hopeless and in need of something to take their minds off it.
Not to mention, the first thing Eddie did after Patrick died was get pissed that she was now stuck with him, and then this morning, he didn't tell her where he was going, or offer for her to come with him, he was probably hoping she'd be found by the cops without him, leaving him alone again.
She placed her hands against her head, rubbing her palms into her eyes in an attempt to clear her thoughts.
She looked at her hands and noticed the remaining eyeliner that she had been wearing smeared across her skin.
"For fucks sake." She sighed. That was just the cherry on the cake, coming onto Eddie whilst she probably had half ruined make-up covering her eyes. There was no way it stayed neat after they swam through the lake.
He probably thought she looked like a crackhead on death's door.
"Why do I do this to myself?" She asked as she cleared her eyes of the remaining make-up.
This is why she never bothered getting attached to people, she always made a fool of herself in one way or another. The only people she'd ever hooked up with, were people she was never going to have to see again, and then she goes and does this?
