Adina
"I'm back, mother," I said to Mother Mary, calling her attention to me as I stepped into the pantry with the paper bag that had contained the prisoner's food in hand."That was quick," she commended, smiling cheerfully.
"Well, I didn't want mother Theresa to be worried about me,"
"That's fine, dear child. Thank you for helping, Adina. I've added your favorite chicken wings to your meal," she winked at me, gently patting my shoulder as I went to take my food, served in a tray from the counter.
"Thank you, mother," I bowed respectfully, while salivating to devour the chicken she added.
"You're welcome, my child. Now go and enjoy your breakfast,"
Blowing her a kiss, I strutted out of the kitchen, making a show to head towards my room but once I saw the coast was clear, I quickly ducked towards the basement, hurrying down the hallway to avoid getting caught.
I hadn't delivered the food to the prisoner as I'd made mother Mary believe. After knowing he's been regularly drugged, I didn't have the heart to let him feed from the food. Hence, I'd disposed of it in a black nylon, and stayed in my room a bit before returning the empty food container to the kitchen.
Now as I walked into the basement, approaching the prisoner, I couldn't help but question myself if I was making the right decision. Was it really worth it? And does he deserve it?
For a moment, my steps faltered, memories of how he'd reacted when I tried inquiring about his past rushed to my mind. But then considering he's been drugged consistently, could it be that he's lost a bit of his memory and had no idea of our first meeting?
That could be possible and was the only reasonable explanation for his behavior.
I resumed walking but again, I came to a halt, recalling how my last visit to him had gone. Accompanied by that were the memories of my dream from a few hours ago.
What if he was out of his cage like he was in the dream?
My heart skipped at the thoughts of my dream coming to pass. He'd been free and had taken me, with the intention of leaving with me.
"It's only a dream, Adina," I muttered to myself, while hoping I was right as I continued my walk.
As soon as I was within his eyesight, he locked his brooding eyes with mine, making my heart accelerate as I moved towards him. A few feet away from him, I stopped, my eyes still locked with his. By this time, my heart was racing and my head was filled with images from the last time I'd been close to him and how I'd touched him while he edged me on.
The sudden urge to trail my eyes down his body was almost unbearable but I knew if I did, the purpose of my visit would be lost. Hence, I fought to keep my eyes on his.
The knowing glint in his soulless eyes made me feel he knew exactly why was going on in my head and he could sense my struggle.
"Hello, Angel," he grinned, flashing me his perfect set of teeth. If I'd thought he was beautiful before, then I didn't know how to classify him after seeing his smile.
In simple terms, he took my breath away and I felt a warmth spread through me, knowing that smile was directed at me. But then, something clicked_he could still remember me!
That means the drugged food he'd been taking was responsible for his memory loss.
This realization had me smiling back as I blurted out the words.
"You still remember me,"
A frown stole the grin from his face with his brows arched in question.
"The last time I came here, you almost attacked me,"
