Lucifer

...She was dressed as a nun, but in a pure white habit. She sat in a corner of the basement with her knees drawn up to her chest, with her hands around them and her head buried between her legs. Her soft heart-wrenching sobs echoed around her but despite that, there was a dull glow around her. Her face was hidden between her legs and her body trembled in fear. An aura of loneliness emanated from her and her sobs spoke of her heartbreak. Then suddenly, he was standing there with a bright smile on his face, his eyes glinting with excitement and happiness but when he heard her sobs, his smile fell, and his face twisted with pain.

He placed a palm on his chest, his face contorting with more agony. He stretched his arm towards her but it emanated dark smoke. An aura of sin, lust, and evil surrounded him, preventing him from getting to her. She was simply too pure to be immersed in the darkness that came with him. Yet, he wasn't willing to let go. He selfishly wanted her for himself. He didn't care if he'd taint her, all he knew was that he'd lay his life down just to see her happy.

He took a step forward, attempting to reach her but he only emanated more darkness, almost covering him.

"A-angel..." He called out in a mere whisper, his thick voice carrying his desperation to have her. But he didn't need to say the words again as she suddenly glanced up and the moment her eyes met his gray orbs, a smile lit up her face. Immediately, she jumped to her feet and ran to him, ignoring the darkness surrounding him. She wrapped her arms around him, burying her head on his chest. He instantly wrapped his arms around her and surprisingly, she was glowing brighter than before. She was so bright that rather than being infused in the darkness, the darkness gave way for her to shine through, and slowly it ebbed away.

"I missed you," she whispered to his hearing when she finally pulled away. Her eyes shone with satisfaction and love.

The pain that had been radiating from him was gone, and replaced by affection. He stared at her with his heart in his eyes, seeing her as his savior, his world, and as though his entire existence revolved around her.

"I'm back, Angel. I promised you I'd come for you and I'm here now,"

"Please promise me you'll never leave again," she asked, her smile slipping off and just like that, the darkness was returning, thickening again just from that momentary slip.

He cradled her face in his palms and looked deeply into her eyes, as though he was staring into her soul and baring his to her.

"Never, my love. I'll always be with you. Take this," he grabbed the beaded jewelry on his neck and took it off, then he wore it around her neck. She held onto it like a precious gift, while still staring into his eyes. "That'll be a reminder of my promise, a part of me that'll always be with you," Then he sealed his lips to hers, as though sealing their fates...

My eyes slipped open to the light of dawn streaming into my bedroom through the blinds but I was lost to that. My thoughts and memories were still tied to the dream I just had. It was the same man I'd always seen in my dreams but this time, he was with Adina. And that necklace, he'd given it to her.

Somehow, it felt more like a revelation than a dream. But then how could it be? How could I see a past I wasn't accustomed to or acquainted with? I've never known that man and I only met Adina by a twist of fate. How come her presence in my life is becoming something much bigger than I can explain? Who is she and most importantly, who is the man?

If I should consider my dream, it means she's his lover, and thus the reason she has the necklace. But what is their connection to me?

I gradually sat up in bed, still mulling over this dream. But as though I'd just been struck with realization, my thoughts drifted to the moment he kissed her, and the words of affirmation he spoke to her, to proclaim his love for her. I also vividly recalled how her aura had instantly transformed and the way her eyes lit up when she saw him. I'd never seen Adina in such a mood. Yes, I'd seen her happy in the past but never like that. Her eyes never lit up with so much happiness. Her love for this man must be so great.

While this was a mere interpretation of my dream, my heart squeezed painfully at the thought of seeing her that way with another man. I wanted her for myself. As much as I hate to admit it, she was becoming a huge part of my life, and her light was beginning to seep into me. It was as if I craved her and no one else.

I was still lost in these thoughts when I suddenly recalled she was dressed as a nun. This detail was more confusing than the entire dream. How could she be dressed in such? Was it to show how pure she was at heart? This was the only reasonable conclusion to that so I went with it.

My morning alarm chose this time to ring, and I quickly put it off before rising to my feet. I had a mission and that was to find Adina and demand answers to all of these questions roaming in my head.

The last time I'd seen her was the previous night. I had her completely under control and we were doing great until Celine decided it was the right time to start up her silly pranks. I'd been so angry that I was forced to report her to Gage after banishing her from my office. But at that time, it was already too late as Adina was nowhere to be found. I drove all the way to her home, hoping she'd be there but she must have known I'll do it as she also wasn't there.

My heart ached deeply at the thoughts of how she must be feeling over Celine's prank. I have to find her and also think of a way to explain things to her.

I headed to the bathroom to begin my day, with my palms balled into fists, rage brewing in my veins at thoughts of Celine's stupidity.

That morning, I drove all the way to Adina's apartment, knowing she would be home as it wasn't time for her shift. I was ready to apologize and do anything she asks for just to please her and get on her good books so she could give me the answers I was searching for.

Sad for a supernatural being, you'd say. But while most demons had the power to read minds or even coerce people to confide in them, I didn't have those powers. All thanks to my human nature.

It took about twenty minutes to get to her home. A frown marred my face as I alighted the car and climbed the shaky stairs to her apartment door. I didn't like her environment. It was very unsafe and it was also the part of town where the other beings could easily prey on the poor humans without being caught. How has she not ever encountered any of them while living in this building that had no security locks?

I shook my head in distaste as I proceeded to knock on her door. At first, I got no response but I didn't give up. I did it again and five more times until it became obvious that she wasn't home. A frown marred my face. I instantly fished my phone from my pants pocket and searched for her number. I'd gotten it from the other servers last night, so I could reach her but I decided against it, knowing she might still be burning with rage and may not want to see me or hear from me.

I dialed it with high hopes but it switched to voicemail. I tried again and the same thing happened. She wouldn't put her phone off for more than twelve hours just because of me, would she?

It didn't seem right for her to do that. As I walked back to my car, thoughts of her whereabouts left me bothered but I told myself she was fine, and she was probably bored and decided to go to work early.

But my hopes were destroyed when I walked into Nightlife and she was nowhere to be found.
