Percy hadn't attended any of his usual activities for the days and the others were concerned. But, no one wanted to bother him either. He'd been through a lot in the past while- He was probably just resting.
Well, Annabeth thought something seemed fishy (pun absolutely intended), so she decided to pay his cabin a visit.
"Percy?" she asked as she opened the door into his cabin, hoping he wasn't naked (and giving him a second to cover up in case he was). All she got in response was a small whimper. Please don't be getting off she pleaded internally as she looked up.
He, in fact, was not getting off. No, he was lying down in bed, looking up at the ceiling with a pained expression on his face. Annabeth frowned as she saw this. "You okay over there?"
Percy looked at her, not saying anything. He looked a mess, and she was concerned for him as she crossed the room to sit on the bed next to where he was. She reached down and took his hand in her own, concern only growing as she felt how shaky (and simultaneously tense) he was.
"Pain?" she asked him simply. They'd both developed chronic pain issues after the whole holding up the entire fucking sky thing. Hers was usually more present (since she'd been holding it up for far longer than he had), but he still had these flare-ups that would leave him unable to move without feeling like all the muscles in his shoulders, legs, and back had been set on fire and stabbed at the same time.
All Percy could manage in response was an almost unnoticeable nod and a tiny affirmative noise. This flare-up was decidedly really bad, so Annabeth fumbled through her pockets and pulled out a fraction of an ambrosia square she had on her. She'd been slowly taking off chunks of it whenever her own pain got particularly unbearable. It didn't work quite as well as it did with injuries, but it muffled the pain enough to where Percy wouldn't be completely bed-bound if he ate it.
She handed him the small bit of ambrosia, which he took and consumed pretty quickly. The feeling as it took effect wasn't quite as nice as when he'd eaten it in the past for battle injuries but he felt the pain die down enough to sit up.
"Thank you" he said quietly, his voice still a bit strained. Annabeth just shrugged in response. "I um..." he swallowed. "There's a cane over on the ground next to the fountain- Tyson made me one and sent it here when I told him about this issue" he pointed over to the fountain in the corner of the room, which had a long, metal stick with a handle next to it. Annabeth nodded in understanding and went over to grab it for him.
"I didn't know you needed this" she said as she handed it to him. He chuckled at this.
"Yeah, I didn't want people to worry, or think I was a liability or anything" he explained. "So I've only really used it when I absolutely needed to and also have been... Hiding it, I guess" he chuckled again, but there was no humor in it this time. Annabeth frowned. "I trust you, though" he added. "You get it"
"Walking can get hard" Annabeth agreed. "I should see about getting one of those for myself"
"I could ask Tyson about it" Percy suggested. Annabeth shook her head.
"No, I would rather make one myself" she told him. "Plus, I'd rather it be made out of wood"
"That's fair" Percy said with a smile. They fell into silence for a moment before he once again broke it. "Thank you for checking in on me"
"It's not like you to miss sword training"
"The thought of going to train when I couldn't even get out of bed made me physically nauseous"
"Do you want me to stay in here with you until dinner?" Annabeth asked him. "I already did my activities and I'm free until dinner"
"Would you?"
"Of course" Annabeth replied with a smile as she ruffled his hair, only faltering slightly when she saw the silver streak through his hair. "We can walk down to dinner together. You know... So you don't trip"
"I would not trip"
"I don't believe you" the blonde insisted. Percy rolled his eyes. "You're clumsy!"
"Haha" he said sarcastically. "Very funny"
"I am a bit of a comedian"
...
"Thank you, Annabeth"
"Don't mention it"
