Bella wasn't entirely sure what she liked about Dan. He was very reserved, extremely strict in his values and routines, and was just such a polar opposite to her and her brother, but somehow she still found herself thinking about him late at night when her mind wandered.
After the whole mess that was the History of Lying class, the two formed an out and official romantic relationship. Dan was the happiest he'd been in a while, and Bella quickly realized how good she felt whenever she saw his smile. It was a bit crooked and always very tight, but it was so distinctly him that she loved it regardless.
She grew to understand him better- The way that he really did take everything literally and it wasn't a flaw as she'd initially written it off as. The way he lit up whenever asked about a philosophical or psychological concept. The way his constant nervousness was eased whenever things went according to plan, and how distressed he got when something went out of bounds of what he expected. She also realized how refreshing it was to be with someone who she never had to worry about lying to her.
He grew to understand her better as well. Accepted the few lies she would tell him, learned to understand the reasoning behind why she lied, and be more patient when confronting her about it. Hell, he even learned to sort of get along with her brother.
They cared about each other- No matter how much they differed, nothing would change that much.
