Matt
Fuck my life.
The random girl from the plane who I spent 8 hours with yesterday telling a load of my secrets to is sitting here with her bright green eyes staring up at me like a deer in the headlights.
I meet her outstretched hand that is frozen in the air and shake it, "Matthew Brown, nice to meet you."
She puts her hand back in her lap "Likewise, Madeleine O'Brien but you can just call me Maddie."
"Matty, aren't you gonna say hi to me? I haven't seen you since before the break, it feels like forever!" Brooke says flirtatiously from beside Maddie.
Forever will not be long enough to get away from her. I try to contain myself from rolling my eyes and turn to my ex. "Hi, Brooke. How was your break?"
"It was fine. Daddy brought us to Aspen again. Such a drag. Would've been better with you there though."
I'd rather slit my wrists. "Next time, I'm sure." I say and sit down next to Darius.
He gives me a fist bump and says "Coach is gonna beat your ass at practice later on for missing yesterday."
Coach Aldine is a hardass on all of us and unless we're dead, not dying, dead, he does not let us miss a practice. But in fairness, it does pay off. I mean we're undefeated state champions seven years in a row now, and I've captained two of them.
He is Felix's father and so he puts even more pressure on him to be a great halfback, especially since he was on the Colombian soccer team before he got injured and now coaches soccer and football here.
You would think that because this is off-season he'd let off a bit but no, his boys are the best and he expects no less than perfect. Even when the only games that we play actually mean nothing in the long run of things.
I shake my head "Oh well I'm so sorry that I wanted to see my grandparents for the first time in months. I didn't even get into my first class until the 3rd hour."
Alex finally gets his ass off the table and sits down between Felix and me. "Good to have you back, bro. Hey, Maddie only flew in yesterday too, you both might've been on the same flight and not realised it."
Mine and Maddie's eyes meet across the table and I say, "Yeah, maybe."
For the next half hour while everyone talks I try my best to not look at Maddie as she talks with Penelope and the other girls. And I fail miserably.
Every time she laughs I feel my head turn her way and I want her to do it again, her laugh is what I can only describe as Christmas morning as a child. Her bright emerald green eyes shining in the sun and the freckles sitting delicately on her nose like someone flicked a paintbrush on her face. And don't get me started on how the curls of her hair keep on falling onto her face.
Jesus what am I even saying. I sound so stupid, I don't even know the girl. Cop on to yourself Brown, you're better than this.
Except apparently, I am not better than this because for the whole next hour that I have free before my next class all I can think about is Maddie and the fact that I didn't do the French homework, but mostly Maddie. Which is really fucking weird for me I might add.
The bell goes off and I grab my bag and walk to my next class and nearly everyone I pass in the halls says Hi to me. Alright, so I won't lie I'm a pretty decent looking guy, brown floppy hair that girls seem to love, hazel eyes I think, I'm like 6'3, and I'm captain of the football team and the quarterback.
What a high school cliche right?
All I need is to date the captain of the cheer team, oh wait, sadly I did that.
