I slowly opened my eyes again. I was back at the hospital.

Man, looking back, those were some truly painful memories.

But the good news is, I finally felt sober from those drugs.

"How long till she's awake?" Captain Yi's voice came lowered.

"We really don't know. If she's strong enough maybe within day or so. Or it's indicative that she might be brain dead." The other doctor replied.

"Of course she's strong enough. She's our daughter." Mrs Yi's voice came tearing down.

Captain Yi patted Mrs Yi's back for comforting her.

"Bao bao would have so angry with us for losing our daughter second time." She cried into Captain Yi's broad shoulders.

"I'm sorry Wei. It was my fault for assigning her that case when she was still green."

"I'm not green." I muttered.

Captain Yi and Mrs Yi quickly straightened themselves.

"How long were you awake?" Mrs Yi asked with a reddened face.

I paused for a while.

"Just now."

She sighed.

"I'm...gonna go." She said and left.

It was just me and Captain Yi in the room now.

He looked down on the floor as if he was guilty.

"There are moles in our precinct. Alejandro already knew I was a cop. He sent me on purpose as a warning." I continued.

He looked up surprised. "What?"

"It must be someone new. I have to call Fred and Swati. They might be sharing everything right now." I tried to stand up.

"Whoa. You're not going anywhere." He sat me down. "You're at least on 6 months bed rest."

"I'm fine. I just need to..."

"Stay put until the doctors clear you. And I want you to stay away from Knox. I don't get good feelings about him."

"Don't bring Knox into this. He might be Robin but he would never put my life in jeopardy."

"Do you realise every case we handle is somehow how connected to him?"

"How is any of this connected to him?"

"Alejandro.....is his half cousin."

"Knox might not even know this."

"When I tell you to stay away. Stay away." He ordered in a very calm-angry tone.

I looked at him in boiling anger.

"Don't act like this. Just....don't.."

"Act like what?"

"ACT LIKE YOU'RE MY DAD." I bashed out. "YOU CAN'T MAKE DECISIONS FOR ME!"

He bit his lips trying not to shout back at me. "You need rest."

"TREAT ME LIKE YOUR FELLOW OFFICER." I ripped out the tubes.

"I HAVE NO USE OF A DEAD SERGEANT!" He finally burst out.

Both of us panted out our frustration.

"I'm sorry. You're right." He admitted.

"I'm sorry too. This is not like me. I just had those painful memory relapses." I sat down.

He sat down beside me.

"You always wanted to know how Liu died?"

I nodded in reply.

He rubbed his face. "She.....was our everything. All parents wish they had daughter like her. But we. We wanted more than that.

A perfect family. A perfect daughter." He put his hands down showing a miserable expression.

"She was what everyone called a child prodigy. She completed high school at 13. Went into college, best of the best, she got into MIT at 14.

The high we felt whenever we introduced her as our daughter....was unimaginable.....and....when she wanted to drop out we screamed and shouted at her for even thinking of that. We didn't listen to what she had to say. We pushed her too far."

He looked into the heart monitor.

"The last time we saw her was in a hospital with flat lines on that monitor. She was doing coke and heroin. It came as a shock that she even did drugs.

Turns out she bought those to perform better. But that day she had overdosed purposely.
She did drugs because of us. She wanted to die because of us. She....had these tubes sticking out of her mouth....her expression...." He choked.

"I...should have known...I shouldn't have pushed her so far. It's all my fault." He broke down.

"When I was called again here....everything was repeating....you were overdosed with exactly the same things...."

I didn't know what to say.

"If.... I could meet her again I would just tell her that I was sorry and I was proud her for what she was."

I slowly hugged him.

He held my hand.

"When Bao Bao dragged you into my house I really felt like Liu had returned. I felt like god had given me a second chance to correct mistakes. I'm sorry if you're uncomfortable being dragged into this."

I looked him into his eyes. "It's ok. I had a dad who was crappier than you."

He chuckled.

"Main thing is he refused to see his mistake. He ran away from me and my mom. From his problems. But....Uncle Chen. You're not the same."

He broke into a smile.

"Thank you Jay."

"I guess we're both thankful." I grinned.
