Road To Redemption

Bad News

Y/N POV

After fully healing we make our way to Haven academy. Entering we find it too quiet.

Ruby: "Is it normally this quiet?"

Y/N: "I don't know."

We make our way to the headmaster's office. Getting there I kick the door open. That's when the others are jump scared by a male lion Faunus. 

Lion: "Are you tryna give me a heart attack!?"

Ruby: "Who are you?"

Leo: "Leonardo Lionheart, at your service."

Y/N: "Where is everyone?"

Leo: "Step inside."

We enter his office. 

Leo: "You'll have to forgive me. But until further notice all of the students have been asked to leave."

Nora: "Why?"

Leo: "We received an anonymous tip saying that Haven was gonna be the subject to an attack."

Jaune: "What?"

Y/N: "Are you absolutely sure?"

Leo: "Yes. It said that it'd start with a stray Grimm slamming into the academy. And that exact thing happened just yesterday."

Ren: "Did they say when Haven would be attacked?"

Leo: "They said we have exactly two weeks from today."

Nora: "That doesn't give us much time."

Ruby: "But it's better than nothing."

She looks at Leo.

Ruby: "How can we help?"

Leo: "We'd need some skilled fighters. Unfortunately no one's willing to fight an all out assault."

Ren: "That just leaves us."

Jaune: "But we're just Huntsmen in training."

Ruby: "Then looks we're gonna need to train really hard. You can count on us Lionheart."

Leo: "Thank Oum."

We exit the academy. As we walk through main street I suddenly stop. I wheeze grabbing my chest. My chest locks up as I begin struggling to breathe. I huff dropping to my knee.

Y/N: "Why the hell..." *huff* "Can't I breathe?"

I keep huffing tightening my grip on my chest. An all consuming pain then hits me knocking me out. I awaken to find myself in a hospital room. I then hear a beeping noise. Looking I find it's an EKG. I rip the cords off sitting up. As I get to my feet the doctor enters the room.

Doctor: "You're up."

Y/N: "And I'm leaving."

Doctor: "I don't think you should."

Y/N: "And why not?"

Doctor: "Because you're sick."

I begin walking out of the room.

Y/N: "Then prescribe me medication."

I reach for the door knob.

Doctor: "You won't be getting better."

I stop before I can grab the knob.

Y/N: "What do you mean?"

Doctor: "I mean you're really sick. To the point you won't ever recover."

I turn around facing the doctor.

Y/N: "If you're trynna say something then just say it."

Doctor: "You're dying."

The world briefly goes silent.

Y/N: "I'm sorry I don't think heard you correctly. Say that again."

Doctor: "You. Are. Dying."

I remain still.

Y/N: "How?"

Doctor: "You have a special ability that allows you to heal. As you know in order to heal you cells have to divide. Unfortunately they can only divide so many times. And going off these readings."

He looks through his notes.

Doctor: "You're getting ready to reach your limit."

Y/N: "What happens when I do reach my limit?"

Doctor: "Your cells will go into necrosis. From there your body will begin to shut down until you ultimately die."

I hang my head. The doctor pats my back.

Doctor: "I'm sorry son."

I only nod. I exit the hospital starting a long somber walk back to the house.

Y/N: "I can't believe it. My greatest asset turned out to be my biggest liability."

I reflect on my life.

Y/N: "So this is what retribution is. It's kinda sad."

My thoughts change to the others. I think on them when I find myself entering the house.

Ruby: "There you are. Where were you?"

Y/N: "Out."

Ruby: "For five hours?"

Y/N: "Yeah."

Nora: "I don't suppose you came up with a plan."

Y/N: "What do you mean?"

Ren: "We need to train. We're still novices."

Y/N: "And just how does that concern me?"

Jaune: "We've all seen how you fight. You're strong."

Ruby: "Therefore we think you should train us."

I think replaying what the doctor told me.

Y/N: "Alright fine, I'll help."

They smile.
