Road To Redemption

Mine Clearing

Y/N POV

I gasp sitting up. Pounding my chest I try to get my lungs to work. I increase the force as my chest now begins to sting. Finally I intake air. I cough hard trying to intake as much air as I can. My coughing sends me tumbling off the bed onto the floor. I continue to cough while dragging myself to the bathroom. Finally reaching the toilet I hurl everything in me up. When I'm done I curse.

Y/N: "How much longer must I endure this?"

I spit before flushing the toilet. Getting to my feet I dress myself. Taking one last look in the mirror I see that rash has now made its way to my neck. I throw on my hood in an attempt to hide it. After that I head to a mission room where I find the others.

Ironwood: "Morning everyone."

They bid a good morning.

Ironwood: "The first part of my plan is to gather the support of Mantle. In order to do that we need to establish a strong connection with them. Lucky for us they require aid in securing the old Schnee Mine."

He presses a remote. An image of a mine is shown.

Ironwood: "The Schnee Mine is full of supplies Mantle needs. We're gonna secure them and hand them over. Hopefully this'll shown that we're here to help."

He presses the remote again. This time an image of a Geist is shown.

Ironwood: "Unfortunately we have opposition in the way. Lurking inside the mine is a Geist that's continued to give us the slip. You guys will enter the mine and corner the Geist. Then all at once you attack and kill it."

I now find myself landing just outside a mine shaft.

Ruby: *in earpiece* "Can anyone hear me?"

They voice a yes.

Jaune: "What's the plan?"

Ruby: "There's eight shafts leading to the heart of the mine. So we split up and each take one. This gives us each a twelve and half percent chance of encountering the Geist."

Yang: "Then happy hunting."

I walk through my shaft. Going about ten yards I see the Geist. It hisses flying away.

Y/N: "Found the Geist. Engaging."

I run after the Geist. I keep going eventually hitting the mine heart. I look around.

Y/N: "Where'd you go?"

The ground rumbles. Looking I see the Geist has possessed boulders of ice. The Ice Geist stomps its way to me. I activate a semblance teleporting away. Now back I switch semblances emitting streams of fire from my hands. 

The flames hit the Ice Geist causing it to shield its face. It then begins getting pushed backwards. It stomps the ground running through the fire towards me. It swings its arm swatting me to the side. 

Slamming into the mine wall I feel pain shoot up my back. I try to move my toes but find them unresponsive. I force my ability fixing my paralysis. Upon shooting back to my feet the Ice Geist brings its fist down. 

I switch semblances powering myself up. I hold out my hands catching the Ice Geist's arm. It narrows its eyes applying more pressure. My body buckles driving me to my knee. To make matters worse my chest screams in agony.

Y/N: "Not now."

I try my best not to cough when the Geist uses its other arm to swat me. Riding its arm I switch semblances teleporting above the Ice Geist. I switch semblances one last time. Holding out my hand strips of the floor spring out towards the Ice Geist.

Its body is wrapped around. It tries its best to break free but it's all for nothing. I close my fist. The floor strips constrict popping the Ice Geist like a grape. I smile when all the air leaves my lungs. The world then goes black as I feel my body hit the ground.
