A few seconds later a tall red-headed woman walks out with a warm smile and introduces herself. "I am Kori, Beta Greyson's mate and wife. I was told that you two might need some help settling in?"

"Hello," Donna said to the both of us.

"What are your names?" She asked like we were making small talk.

"My name is Donna Troy," Donna said with a smile as she shook the woman's hand.

"Mine is Rachel Roth," I shook her hand.

"Lovely to meet you both. I hear Donna is mates with the upcoming Beta, so congratulations. And I can't forget to congratulate the future Queen Luna, Rachel." Kori said with kindness but her words felt like rocks.

"Thank you," Donna said, taking charge.

"Now, how might I help you?" Kori asked.

"The King said that you would help us. Could you show us to our rooms? It has been a crazy night and I think Rachel and I could use some rest. I would like to stay by Rachel if even possible." Donna requested.

"I can do that," Kori nods and starts walking away from the ballroom and down the stairs. "I shall also ask for ice because you are bruising, my dear," Kori said the last part to me.

I touched my face and felt the stinging pain radiate off of it, and knew she was right. This wasn't going to look good for the next few hours. "Thanks," was all I could say as we walked down the halls of the castle.

"These rooms join together by a door," Kori stopped at two doors. "Pick the room of your choice and please enjoy. A couple of maids will be here any second and take care of your every need. I have to get back to my mate, but if you need me just tell the maids."

"You are very kind," Donna said.

Kori walked away and I walked into the first room. Donna followed and closed the door, wanting to make sure I was alright. I lay down on the bed and started to cry. Donna rushed over and started to rub my back.

"What is wrong?" She asked in worry.

"I don't have a pack anymore," I sobbed. "Once I am rejected I would never be welcomed back again. Then I will become a rogue and have to leave." I let all my worries flow out. "Again."

"That would never happen," Donna tried but failed to make me stop crying.

"It will," I shake my head, dreading the worst. "Once he knows I am a shield there will be no use for me and he will reject me. You know just as well as I do that shields are not good with mates."

"I don't believe that," Donna rubbed my shoulders. "I think Damian is a good man. I am sure he won't mind."

"But what if he does? What happens then?" I buried my face in some pillows.

"Then I will leave too," Donna said with confidence. "I will leave with you and we can be together like we always planned."

"You can't leave you mate," I shake my head, knowing I couldn't do that to Donna.

"If he doesn't love me enough to come with me, then I can not help it. I will forever follow you," Donna said with fake confidence, trying to convince herself as well as me.

And this is why she was one of my best friends. She would sacrifice her happiness for me, even if it meant becoming a rogue and never seeing her mate again. It was heartwarming to see, but I knew I couldn't let my friend go through all of this because of me.

If I had to leave, I would have to leave Donna behind too. And though it was sad, I hoped that her talents would be discovered and she could finally follow her dreams in a new pack.

After a while I calmed down and stopped crying, no longer having water in my body. I was tired and my eyes felt heavy with each passing moment. The last thing I remember was Donna standing up and wishing me a good night before leaving her room.

I had a dream where the door opened and in walked my mate, hesitating by the doorway. I whispered his name, calling for him to come closer, suddenly cold. I wanted him to hold me and keep me warm.

He hesitated but slowly walked towards me, taking off his suit jacket and a few other clothing items until he was standing in only a shirt and black pants. Then the bed shifted with his weight before he settled beside me.

I turned around and laid my head on his chest without a moment's thought and closed my eyes. It felt like the best dream in the world. I never wanted to wake up, but of course, morning had to come.
