"Why am I so nervous?" I think out loud, turning to Bex who just laughs. The thundering roar around us of all the students who had gathered for the first game of the season almost deafening. "I mean, I'm not the one who's playing."
"I'm nervous too," Bex sympathizes with me. "If we don't beat Montana state, your boyfriend will be hearing from me personally, cuz' I'm gonna be pissed."
"Oh, that's still so weird," I laugh now, shaking my head.
"What?" She asks, smirking slyly at me.
"That's he's my boyfriend," I sigh. "I mean, it's only been a week I guess, I'm still getting used to it honestly."
"Well, I am used to it," Bex reassures me. "And I don't just speak for myself when I tell you that, I love it."
"Uh huh, you and Andee maybe, Justin, not so much." I laugh and she laughs too, nodding in agreement.
"Speaking of," Bex says then, glancing over my shoulder and standing to wave at someone behind me. "Look who's back."
I turn then, and spot Andee, Tristan, Justin and Lars pushing through the crowd to the court side seating that Ryder had got us. They'd gone on a mission to get waffle fries and more of the overpriced, canned cocktails that they were only able to sell in abundance because most of the student section never pregamed enough.
"It's insane out there," Lars shouts over the crowd as he's the first to reach us. "Like, holy fuck, this has got to be a record number for student attendance."
"I swear to god, if one more stick figure bitch bumps into me with her pointy elbows, I'm gonna lose it." Justin declares, sitting in the seat on the other side of me and handing me a canned tequila margarita. I crack it open, taking a long sip to calm the jumble of nerves in my stomach.
"Well, the game is about to start," Tristan adds, sitting next to Andee who has taken the empty seat next to Bex. Lars scoots around us to sit on Justin's other side as we all finally situate ourselves among the bustling crowd all scrambling to get a good seat. "And this is a big game, I mean it's the first game, and we always beat Montana, so there are always good vibes."
"Hey man, don't jinx it." Bex snaps. "If we get cocky now, we'll mess up the karma."
"Yeah, who knows what could happen tonight." Lars reassures Bex, leaning forward on his elbows so we can hear him. "All I know is, Andrew and Ryder have been in the gym every day this week, so I know they're practicing."
"I know, poor guy has been icing his entire body every night." I add and Justin makes a face.
"I don't want to hear about that." He quips and Bex reaches around me to slap his knee.
