the next morning as the sun rose slowly, luke woke up early. he sat on his bed although he thought of nothing.
he got up and dressed, finding his doc marten's under his desk. the sun was barely in the sky but luke left for the park.
once again he avoided the coffee shop and wondered why salem didn't want him going near there.
"hi, luke."
the tall boy nearly jumped out of his skin. salem sat, cross-legged, on the closest park bench. her eyes were darker than usual and she had a jumper on instead of her usual cardigan.
"salem," he breathed, "hi."
she stood slowly, her arms wrapped tightly around herself. "where did it go?"
luke tilted his head in confusion. he took a step closer to her and reached a hand out.
"where did what go?" he questioned.
"you know what I mean. it's gone, luke. they're coming."
"who's coming?" he demanded. salem didn't answer, she simply began to walk away. "what do you mean they're coming, salem?"
luke stood his ground, confused about what she meant. he noticed her limp slightly, though her heels still never touched the ground.
she opened the gate and prepared to step out before turning around again slowly. her eyes were back to their usual colour but she now had a bruise below her left eye.
"do you believe in ghosts and demons, luke?" and then she was gone.
