luke didn't want to make salem upset again. he put on his doc martin's and grabbed his keys.
"where do you go every morning?" his flatmate asked.
"just for a walk," luke answered briefly.
he walked over the hill and past the coffee shop on the corner until he reached the park.
salem wouldn't arrive for a little while so he sat on the grass underneath a tree. giggles from small children filled the air around him.
"hello, luke."
he looked up slowly to see salem standing in front of him.
"hello, salem."
she gestured to him to get up and walk with her. immediately, he did.
"what day is it, luke?"
"it's tuesday," he couldn't help but wonder if she knew anything anymore.
salem twisted her lips to the side.
"what year is it?" she asked and hoped she was right.
"2014."
oh, she thought, I was wrong. she didn't want luke to think she was crazy so she just nodded her head.
"do you want to ask me something, luke?"
he looked her, he liked the way her nose scrunched up slightly when she talked.
"why do you wear the same clothes every day?"
salem thought about it. she didn't have anything else to wear. she knew she didn't choose this outfit but she couldn't figure out why she never changed.
"I'm not sure."
luke saw the park exit ahead of them so he let salem continue walking without him.
as she left the gate, luke could have sworn he saw her smiling.
