A.N: The introduction to chapter #3 was inspired by the song Matilda by Harry Styles. I was listening to it a bit ago and gave me sort of an idea for the introduction. Lila's character was also inspired by the song lol. I even feel hurt for Lila during her childhood. # protectlila

chapter #3: girl in the basement

Song: Kids by Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein

Lila never thought she would have fun with Steve Harrington. I mean he was the guy she always said no to, she would never imagine finally saying yes to Harrington. She felt this weird feeling in her when she was studying with him, a weird feeling she thought she'd never feel. She tried brushing it off while they study but just the way he cared about her was enough for her or even how patient he was with her. But then the fear would interfere with her feelings, she blames the fear on her father. Her father ruined her childhood, she wished she could have stayed with Dustin and her mother all those years. She never had a man in her life that proved to stay forever or love her. She saw all these little girls over in Indiana getting picked up by their fathers at school. She saw how loveable those fathers were to their daughters. All she wanted was a hug from her father, she never understood why she was so unlucky. She did everything her father told her even if she was drained and tired because she thought "Maybe if I do this my father will love me.." She was wrong, she always got yelled at 24/7, she was hit violently leaving her in pain for a couple of days. she was so used to this behavior that she thought everything she would do was wrong. She was in pain, she felt alone...she was alone, she was isolated, and she knew no matter what she did, her father will never be the father she wished to have. When she finally had the courage to fill a report on her father, she felt this huge relief like she could finally breathe. Nancy and Nancy's mother welcome her with open arms in the station, all Lila could do was sob and let out all the pain she had built up. She remembers two things both Nancy and Nancy's mom told her.

When they were on their way to Hawkins, everyone was excited to have her back. She remembered one thing Nancy's mom said, "You don't have to be sorry because they never showed you love. In Hawkins, they won't hurt you anymore, you're safe, you're free."

Nancy was always the person reassuring her constantly, "Not everybody is going to hurt you the way he did. You gotta let someone in again eventually."  So, she thought it was time to let someone in after fighting against her fear. She was going to let Steve Harrington in, she fears a bit but she wasn't going to let her fear ruin her life. She never felt safe around a man before until the day Steve helped her study. How soft he would talk to her, the way he listens to every detail that would come out of her mouth. The way he looked at her as if she was the only girl at Hawkins. On the other hand, Steve never felt so attached to a girl before, he always wanted to be around Lila. Even if took him to watch Risky Business with her the day he was supposed to help her study, but didn't go quite as planned. He would get jealous anytime he heard Lila say, "Tom Cruise is so hot."  His way of fighting back was saying. "You know Carol thinks, I actually kinda look like him."
