Chapter 23
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
I hear the foggy sound of beeping enter my mind. I start to feel more alert, I have to shut off my alarm. I have to shut it off before he comes. I try to move my hand but it won't budge, I start to panic. My body won't wake up, he's gonna wake up and come for me.
I hear the loud bang of the door and the beeing becomes quicker and louder. Oh no, he's here. I start to hear shouting then I feel a heavy weight on my arm. Something sharp pricks me when everything starts to clear and the silence returns.
*************
The fog in my head starts to clear and I hear voices talking around me. There's also this overwhelming weight on my hand. I hear a woman's voice, "Doctor, when is she going to wake up? She's been out for 2 weeks now." This woman sounded worried and for some reason I'm having a sense of deja vu.
A man's voice breaks through, "I'm sorry Mrs. Parker, but I can not tell you that. Your daughter seems to have suffered from from multiple blows to the head area. She had some swelling in the brain but it has gone down. She doesn't seem to be getting worse or better. It's all up to her at this point"
A choked sob comes from my side, then I hear a very upset and angered voice, "Are you telling me you can't do anything? Nothing?!" the boy shouts at the doctor.
Mrs. Parker speaks up, "Cole, please calm down. They're doing all they can."
Cole shouts once again, "Then why isn't she awake?!" right as the weight leaves my hand. My heart squeezes at the amount of pain in his voice. I wish I could take away his pain, I wish I could hear his laugh again.
I try to get my eyes to open but they feel like they are a hundred pounds. I grow frustrated and I hear my heart monitor pick up. The doctor speaks up, "She needs rest. All this yelling will put too much stress on her body." Then I hear him nearing me. Oh no, he's going to make the darkness and silence come again.
I try with all my strength to open my eyes but it's no use I feel the familiar pinch and everything goes dark.
************
The silence slowly fades as I hear a single voice speaking to me, "Kat, you need to wake up. It's been two weeks and everything is falling apart without you. Mom is stressing out and hasn't gotten much sleep. Conner hasn't spoken to anyone not even Caden. Caden as been down in the dumps missing his best friend. And Cole, well... Cole is being Cole. We miss you Kat, please wake up."
My heart breaks a little as I hear Cody speak to me and I'm not able to respond. 'I want to wake up. I want you to know that I hear you that everything will be okay.'
I hear the sound of a chair scraping along the floor and the door open and close. Someone else sits beside me and is silent for awhile before he starts to speak, "Kat..." That one word from his mouth, that one word that held so much pain made me want to cry. How was I causing so much pain to this family, they've only known me for two months. "I miss you so much, I know your here but in a way your not. You've changed us, you have seen the good in us and have made us all happy. Your gave our mom a daughter she never had, you gave us a sister, well most of us. We can't lose you."
I keep trying to wake up but my body refuses to let me. As I hear Conner leave my frustration grows until I hear another person enter. They take a seat just like the others and when he speaks it's like a whisper, "Kat, you need to wake up. The doctor was telling us it's up to you now. Please, I can't lose my best friend. I promise you that nothing will happen to you ever again. If your not waking up because your scared you don't have to be anymore. You have us. Please Kat, please wake up."
As Caden speaks I really want to tell him that I'm trying, that I know it's up to me. I want to tell him that I'm not afraid anymore that I have them and that they will always have me.
Once again he leaves and another enters, this time the person doesn't start out the same greeting. "Hey kitty..." My heart picks up a beat as I hear his voice. I keep trying to open my eyes but they refuse to. All of a sudden I hear the sound of the heart monitor pick up beat and everything goes hazy. I hear shouting from around the room. Only one thing sticks out the most.
"WE'RE LOSING HER!!" Then everything goes dark.
