After school I went to the Middle school. But only Dustin and Lucas got in the car. As they did, a few kids that were standing around outside were looking our way. Dustin turned, "yeah, that's right. My sister is a badass!" he said and got in the car. I shook my head and laughed. "So, where is Mike?" I asked. I shifted down as I picked up speed. "He wasn't at school," Dustin said. "I'm telling you, it's becaus his stupid plan didn't work,"Lucas said. "So off to Mike's house then," I said.

When we got there Lucas knocked on the door and Mike answered. "You were at school," Lucas said. "Just follow me," Mike told us. We walked into the house and upstairs to his room. I closed the door behind me and when I looked I saw the girl sitting on Mike's bed. I leaned my shoulder against the door and crossed my arms across my chest.

"Are you out of your mind?" Lucas asked. "Just listen to me,"Mike said but Lucas interrupted him, "you are out of your mind," he said. "She knows about Will," Mike said. That had us looking at him in confusion. "What do you mean she knows about Will?" Dustin asked. "She pointed at him, at his picture. She knew he was missing. I could tell," Mike told us.

"You could tell?" I asked. "Just think about it. Do you really think it was a coincidence that we found her on Mirkwood, the same place where Will disappeared?" Mike asked.
"That is weird," Dustin said, looking at Lucas. "And she said bad people are after her.
I think maybe these bad people are the same ones that took Will," Mike explained. "I think she knows what happened to him."

"Then why doesn't she tell us? Do you know where he is? Do you know where Will is?" Lucas asked, getting in the girl's face. "Lucas!" I said, going over and pulling him away from her. "Stop it, you're scaring her!" Mike yelled. "She should be scared! If you know where he is, tell us! This is nuts.We have to take her to your mom."

"No! Eleven said telling any adult would put us in danger," Mike said. "What kind of danger?" I asked. "Her name is Eleven?" Lucas asked. "El for short." I sighed and took a deep breath. "Mike, what kind of danger?" Dustin asked, raising his voice. "Danger danger," Mike said. He made a gun with his fingers and pointed it at Lucas' and Dustin's forehead. "No, no, no! We're going back to plan A. We're telling your mom," Lucas said and walked to the door. He opened it but then it closed and locked. "No," Eleven said. We looked over at her to see her nose bleeding. "What the fuck?" I mumbled.

Lucas, Dustin, and I ended up staying for dinner. Everyone was now sitting around the table and Eleven was upstairs in Mike's room still. "Something wrong with the meatloaf?" Mrs. Wheeler asked. The boys were picking at their food. "Oh, no, I had two bologna sandwiches for lunch. I don't know why," Dustin told her. "Me, too," Lucas said.

"It's delicious, Mommy," Nancy told her mother. "Thank you, sweetie." I nodded in agreement, "it really is good, Mrs. Wheeler. Thank you for letting us stay," I said. "You're welcome, YN. Thank you," she said, smiling at me. "So, there's this special assembly thing tonight for Will at the school field.Barb's driving," Nancy said. Ah. So that's why she was being so nice and sucking up to her mom. "Why am I just hearing about this?" Mrs. Wheeler asked. "I thought you knew," Nancy said. "I told you, I don't want you out after dark until Will is found."

"I know, I know, but it'd be super weird if I'm not there. I mean, everyone's going. Right, yn?" Nancy said, looking over at me. I looked between her and Mrs. Wheeler. "I'm. Yeah. Yeah. I mean I don't know if I'm going yet. If the kids want to go then I'll take them," I said. "Just be back by 10:00.Why don't you boys go, too?"

"No," they all said. "Don't you think you should be there? For Will?," Mrs. Wheeler asked. Mike choked on his milk and I looked up to see Eleven. Mrs. Wheeler went to turn around but Dustin banged his fist on the table. Sorry. Spasm," he said. Mike's little sister Holly whimpered, "Oh It's okay, Holly. It's just a loud noise," Mrs. Wheeler said. "Nice," I whispered looking at my brother. He mouthed sorry and looked down.

After dinner Barb picked Nancy up so they could go over to Steve's house. I decided to help Mrs. Wheeler clean up the dishes and kitchen. "Thank you so much, YN," she said. I smiled at her, "it's really no problem, Mrs. Wheeler," I said. She smiled and then went to put Holly to bed. The boys came into the kitchen and I gave them a plate of food to give to El. When we went back downstairs Mike walked over to her and set the tray down. "No adults. Just us and some meatloaf," he said, sitting down in front of her.

She looked up at me, Dustin, and Lucas. "Don't worry. They won't tell anyone about you," Mike told her. "They promise. Right?" Mike said, looking at us. We never would've upset you if we knew you had superpowers," Dustin said. I smack the back of his head. "Ow!"

"What Dustin is trying to say is that they were just scared earlier. That's all," Mike said.
"We just wanted to find our friend," Lucas told her. ""Friend"?" El asked. "Yeah, friend.
Will?" Lucas said. "What is "friend"?" She asked. "Is she serious?" Lucas asked. "Lucas," I warned. "Um, a friend Is—" he went to explain but Mike stepped in. "someone that you'd do anything for," he said. "You lend them your cool stuff, like comic books and trading cards," Dustin added. "And they never break a promise," Mike said.

"Especially when there's spit," Lucas said. "Spit?" El asked. "A spit swear means—" Lucas said and spit in his hand. "you never break your word. It's a bond," he said, shaking Dustin's hand. I scrunched up my face and mumbled under my breath, "gross." Dustin looked at his hand for a while. I'm back at Lucas before wiping it on his shirt. "That's super important, because friends, they tell each other things. Things that parents don't know," Mike explained. "Yeah, and YN is my sister but she's like a sister to Mike, Lucas, and Will too. You can always trust her with everything," Dustin told her. I smiled at my little brother and looked at El. "You can trust us. We can help you and you can help us find Will."

I was leaning on the wall beside the stairs when El walked over to the table that the boys had their D&D game set up on. She sat down, put her hands on the table, and closed her eyes. "What's the weirdo doing?" Lucas asked. "El?" Mike asked. She was quiet for a few seconds before opening her eyes. She picked up the Wizard piece and looked at it, "Will," she said. "Superpowers," Dustin said. We all just looked at him before giving our attention back to El.

Mike sat down beside her, "Did you see him? On Mirkwood? Do you know where he is?" He asked. She looked at him, cleared off the board and flipped it over. She took the Wizard and set it in the center of the board. "I don't understand," Mike said. "Hiding," she told him.
"Will is hiding?" I asked. She nodded her head. "From the bad men?" Mike asked. She shook her head. "Then from who?" Mike asked. She took another piece and set it down beside the Wizard. When I looked closer I noticed it was the demogorgon.
