Hope sat on her bed in the her room at the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted. Across from her sat Josette Saltzman. Their mood was sullen, they were both awaiting the inevitable.
"Please, don't be mad at me, Josie," Hope pleaded, grabbing Josie's hand and holding it in hers.
"I'm not mad," Josie shook her head and assured her.
"Good," Hope let out a breath of relief. "Cause Penelope has had this coming for a very long time and-"
"Don't push it," Josie stopped her gently. "I don't condone what you did, but I'll let it slide. Only because it was to defend my honor."
Both girls heard a knock.
"Come in," Hope called out.
The door opened, revealing Dorian Williams, one of their teachers.
"Pack your things, Hope. You're going home."
She was being suspended. Josie frowned and turned to Hope, only to see that she couldn't care less.
"How long?" she said indifferently.
"A week, but next time you do something like this it could be longer," he informed her.
"Oh no, I'm so scared. You've deterred me from breaking the rules for forever," she said sarcastically.
"We've notified your mother, she's on her way to get you. And there's one more thing."
"Mr. Williams, I really don't care. So if you could just leave me to my packing," she had already hopped off her bed and grabbed a suitcase to start packing.
"We've also notified your father, Hope."
"You what?" her eyes flashed yellow and she stopped what she was doing.
Josie saw and immediately placed her hand on Hope's arm.
"Hope, calm down," Josie softly spoke. "You don't want to make things worse."
"No, I have a right to be mad," Hope pulled her arm away.
"Why the fuck would you do that?" she turned to her teacher. "My father and I haven't spoken in years."
"Watch your language," he warned her. "According to school rules, when a student gets suspended we have to notify their guardians and he's listed as one of yours. I'm sorry, Hope."
With that information, he left.
"Ugh!" Hope screamed, slamming the door shut with her rage.
"Hey, everything's going to be alright," Josie comforted the auburn-haired girl.
Hope finished packing and hugged Josie goodbye, promising to call after everything cooled down at home. She headed to the front gates of the school where her mom was waiting for her.
"You are so grounded, young lady," Hayley told her as she got into the car with her suitcases.
