"Hope," Josie finally caught up to her after running through the halls. "Where are you going?"
"To my room, to finish up some work," Hope told her annoyed, though Josie knew it was just a mask to cover up her hurt.
"What's the matter, Hope? Tell me," Josie begged. "Nothing's changed between us, I still like you, you still like me."
"I'm upset I didn't know. I didn't think you and Penelope had been that serious, but I just found out that she took your virginity."
"What, are you jealous or something?"
"Yeah," Hope was being entirely honest.
"Hope, it's not a big deal."
"Look, I know we're not in that stage of our relationship, but I guess I imagined that being a moment we had together," Hope admitted.
It might've sounded dumb, but Hope imagined her and Josie experiencing that for the first time with each other, sometime in the future, as a symbol of the unique closeness and strength of their relationship.
"You've never...?" Josie asked.
"No, I've dated people before, but I've never gone that far because I've never, I've never," Hope stumbled over her words in realization "Did you love her?"
Josie's eyes raised from the floor to meet Hope's.
"Do you still love her?" Hope's voice broke.
"It's complicated."
Their eyes were locked on each other, trapped in a battle. Tears threatened to overflow from Josie's eyes as she saw the pain in Hope's.
Hope suddenly looked away.
"I think, I need time on my own," she left Josie standing alone in the great hall.
Josie broke down crying right then and there. She felt like she was about to lose Hope as her girlfriend and best friend, and it was all too much to handle.
Lizzie walked out into the great hall and tripped over Josie who had somehow ended up on the floor.
"I've been looking for you," Lizzie helped Josie up. "I passed Hope a little bit ago and she seemed pretty upset."
Josie made eye contact with her twin.
"And so do you," Lizzie was concerned. "Come on, let's go back to our room before someone else trips over you."
