Beckett, Emery, and I are all leaving on a little "family vacation" tomorrow. Em and I decided it was about time for a little getaway, and Beck has never been on a big vacation before. He's only ever been as far as his grandparents' house half an hour away. I went on my first big trip when I was 4, so I figured it was about time since he's around that same age.
He's the best little kid ever. I've basically raised him by myself with help from Em and my mom. It hasn't been easy, but they've been an incredible support system, so they've made it so much easier for me. Em babysits Beckett while I'm at work, so Beck and Aunt Emmy have created a special bond.
He calls her Aunt Emmy because he couldn't say Emery when he was learning to talk. Even though he could probably pronounce it now, none of us correct him. She loves being his Aunt Emmy. She said it feels like he gave her a nickname like she's the "cool aunt".
She's his only aunt.
We'll be gone for 10 days total. It's a Thursday night and our flight leaves tomorrow morning at 10:30. I wasn't in the mood to wake Beckett up for an early morning flight since this is meant to be a relaxing and fun trip. He's very hard to wake up and it would make for a miserable traveling day for everyone if he has an attitude. If he's crabby, we're all crabby.
It's about 7:30 pm and we just finished our pre-vacation dinner of dino nuggets and mac and cheese. Beck and I are sitting on the couch watching Lilo and Stitch in order to prepare for our trip, and Emery should be here any minute now. I told her to come over after she was done with dinner so it's easier in the morning.
I've barely packed. That's another reason why Em is staying with us tonight. I haven't been on vacation in forever, so I have no clue where to even start.
My attention is taken from the TV when I hear a knock on the door and the click of the lock on the front door, meaning Em was letting herself inside using her key.
"Hello, my favorite little family ever!" She yells as she walks into the living room. She's pulling her suitcase behind her as she walks and leaves it beside the couch once she's in the living room. She rounds the couch to where Beck and I are sitting and I stand up to give her a hug.
Emery has black hair and tan skin and her hair and makeup is always done to perfection, even when she's not trying. It's something I'm a little envious of her about. She doesn't even have to try and she's stunning and I can try my hardest and I always find something that I want to fix.
"You ready for the best family vacation ever?" She smiles.
"I'm so excited, Em. I really hope Beck loves it. Slight dilemma though." I pout.
A look of confusion crosses Emery's face. "Please tell me this isn't what I think it is."
"I haven't started packing my stuff yet. I have no clue what to bring and it's stressing me out" I look down shyly, not really wanting a lecture about my procrastination.
