CHAPTER 39

Devyn watched as Denzyl changed into the gear provided by the human's company. Devyn stood from the bed and walked over to the demon to help Denzyl put on the bulletproof vest as the crimson-haired picked up the final piece. The demon gazed down at the human softly as Devyn tightened the straps, so the vest would fit snuggly around Denzyl's waist.

"Perfect," Devyn said quietly as he took a step back and studied the demon's outfit to make sure everything was in top condition. "Thank you for helping them. You didn't have to," Devyn said to the demon as his eyes trailed up to those stormy orbs.

"I'll do anything to keep you safe," Denzyl returned as he smiled down at Devyn who was looking up at him with big eyes. Denzyl found himself under the human's trance as Devyn leaned up and kissed his lips. The demon's hand naturally flowed down Devyn's back to the human's waist as he pulled Devyn into his body to deepen the kiss.

Devyn fluttered his emerald eyes as the two pulled away. The human steadied his breathing before looking Denzyl straight in the eyes and saying, "I think I love you."

Denzyl was struck. Never in his life did he think he would be loved by such a wonderful man. What did I do to deserve his love? He is so pure, and I am...well...a demon.

Devyn continued to look up at Denzyl, awaiting the demon's response. My response...right! Pull yourself together, Denzyl! Let him know you love him, too! Do not leave him hanging. Wait...did I just confess I love him? Yes! I have known I have loved him ever since...well, ever since he came into my life. He is literally a gift from the Heavens. I do not know what good I did to deserve him, but I sure as hell will love him!

"I love you, too," Denzyl managed to return Devyn's confession after a short moment.

The biggest smile appeared on Devyn's face as the human leaned into the demon. The two remained in each other's arms as they held their love, just being immersed in the other's presence until Devyn looked up at Denzyl. He brought the demon's face to his and kissed Denzyl softly.

"Come back to me, okay? We still have so much to do," Devyn told Denzyl as he gazed into the demon's dark grey eyes.

"I will," Denzyl returned with a smile.

"Promise?"

"Promise. I still have yet to love you enough."

Devyn's heart swelled at the demon's words. "Then don't you dare forget your promise." Denzyl smiled down at Devyn before planting a kiss on the human's head. "Come on, the others are waiting," Devyn said as he took the demon's hand and led him out of the room. The demon and human held hands as they walked down the hallway and entered the common area where Kilo, Aklys, Rae, and Ilios were waiting.

"Wish us luck," Rae said as he raised his brows in 'goodbye' to the human.

"Good luck," Devyn returned as the five prepared to set out for Hades. "Stay safe. May your gods be with you."

Kilo nodded at the human shortly before turning and following Aklys, who had already set off. Rae and Ilios were next to join the two. Denzyl was the last to leave. The demon lingered for a few moments as he gazed at the human softly before turning and joining the rest of the rescue party.

"Come back to me," Devyn let out in a whisper as he watched the five leave.

Castyr leaned against the bars of the cage for support as he clenched his heart. The star steadied his breathing as a sudden surge of energy rushed through his body. Castyr had been feeling his body changing over the past couple of days. He would get a few, small surges and immediately use them to heal Orion, so would gladly take the pain. But that day was different. It was the night before the occurrence of the blood sun, and the surges came more often and were much stronger.
