Pain ushered Denzyl back to the world of consciousness. Red light met the avex's vision as he opened his eyes to find himself hanging from chains in the underground cell where he was once tortured. The tank, dendrum, and Etta were nowhere to be found; instead, two demons stood guard at the cell's entrance, and Denzyl noticed that Ryiak had added to his collection of torture devices and tools displayed on the walls and tables lining the cell.
Denzyl's stomach churned when all he could think about was the horrendous torture he went through the last time he was in the room. Denzyl was forced to shove down his nerves that had been triggered upon waking up in the cell when he heard the sounds of a group of people approaching. One of the guards opened the door to the cell to allow Ryiak to enter followed by two of his lackeys.
"Long time no see, Denzyl," Ryiak greeted the avex with a dark look in his eye. The two demons who accompanied the blue-haired positioned themselves on either side of Denzyl while Ryiak perched himself on the edge of the table directly in front of Denzyl with one leg still on the floor. "How's your pet? Does he miss me?"
A snarl rippled from Denzyl's throat at Ryiak's crude mention of Devyn. Liking Denzyl's reaction, Ryiak added, "I wish you would have brought him with you. I'd very much like to pick up where I left off with him."
Denzyl jerked against the chains cuffed around his wrists in reaction to Ryiak's comment, causing the blue-haired demon to smirk with satisfaction. He loved to poke Denzyl's sensitive spot. "Ahhhh," Ryiak let out a sigh and tilted his head to the side as if he were recalling his time with Devyn. "He sure knew how to go down on someone."
"What do you want, Ryiak?" Denzyl snarled, directing the focus of the conversation away from Devyn.
"Now you speak to me. Finally!" Ryiak scoffed and crossed his arms as he glared at the avex. "All it took was reminiscing about what your little pet did with me. Tsk tsk tsk, you're too attached to that thing." The demon shook his head as he said under his breath, "I don't get why the emyr wants you back so badly. I just don't think you're worth it."
Denzyl's brows scrunched when he heard Ryiak's mumble. What does he mean? Why does my father want me back? He'd be better off taking in an heir who will do what he wants and be a filial inheritor. Denzyl's thoughts were cut short when Ryiak shook his head and stood to his feet. "Never mind all that shit. Let's have some fun before the emyr shows up and stops me."
"You're a psychopathic bastard," Denzyl snarled at Ryiak as the demon turned to pick out what device he wanted to use to bring the avex maximum pain.
"I know," Ryiak returned with a laugh. "Thanks for volunteering to play along for a bit. The humans were growing boring; they haven't been as loud lately."
Denzyl's heart broke for the captured humans who were forced to be subjugated to Ryiak's cruel and inhumane treatment. The avex held his breath as Ryiak turned from the table holding his tool of choice: a metal bat with textured ridges running down its length. Denzyl kept his eyes locked on Ryiak as the demon approached him. The avex's fists clenched in preparation for the beating that was impending, but just as Ryiak lifted the bat, footsteps sounded in the corridor outside the cell.
Knowing who was approaching, Ryiak let out a breath of disappointment and lowered the bat before retreating to stand in front of the table as Klein entered the cell. Etta entered the cell after Klein, and her eyes immediately went to the avex hanging from chains in the ceiling. The female lowered her head when Denzyl looked her way and averted her gaze to the ground as Klein came to stand in front of the crimson-haired.
"Hello, Denzyl," Klein greeted the avex. His expression was cold and hard; there was not a single ounce of familial affection in the man's voice; he was sharp and curt as he addressed Denzyl.
