"Is there anything else I can do for you today?" Astrid asked politely as she stood by the entrance to Devyn's office. The CEO looked up from the screen and shook his head before responding, "No. Thank you, Astrid. You may go. I am nearly done."
"Yes, sir," the blonde returned with a quick bow. "Have a nice night," the secretary bid as she turned and exited the office.
Devyn looked back to the screen at the sound of the door closing and immediately returned to work. The human worked for the next two hours before standing from his chair and taking a lap around the office to stretch his limbs. Devyn rolled his neck as he completed the short lap and returned to his desk.
A notification popping up on the CEO's screen reminded Devyn he had one more task to complete before he could relax for the day. The human leaned over his desk as he opened the notification and let it bring him to the messaging center. Devyn selected the recipient's name and began typing the message. The human stood up straight as he sent the message and released a breath. He had been meaning to send the message for the past few days but had been swamped with work, so the thought had gone to the back of his mind. If not for the reminder, Devyn was sure he would have forgotten yet again.
The sound of the door opening brought the CEO's attention to the room's entrance as he disactivated the screen and pushed the chair into the desk. A smile came to Devyn's lips as he saw Denzyl enter with a cup of hot tea. "Thank you," the green-eyed said gratefully as he accepted the cup from the demon and took a sip of the calming drink.
"Ready?" Denzyl asked as he saw the deactivated screen and pushed-in chair.
"Mm," Devyn sounded as he nodded in response. The demon grabbed the human's suit jacket that was hanging from the coat rack as Devyn walked around the desk and met the demon at the entrance. The demon took Devyn's hand as he opened the door and led the human into the hallway.
The building was nearly vacant as most workers had left for the day, so the couple had the executive floor to themselves.
"Did you send it?" Denzyl asked as Devyn leaned into the demon as they walked to the elevators.
"Mm. I set a reminder, so I wouldn't forget again," Devyn replied as Denzyl pressed the button to summon the elevator. "Do you think she'll respond?"
"I'm sure she will," Denzyl assured the CEO as he nodded his head slightly in response.
"I'm afraid it was too much to ask," the human revealed as the elevator landed on their floor.
"I don't think you could ever be too much, at least not to her," Denzyl replied as the doors opened, and the two entered.
A smile came to the human's lips as he leaned into the demon and closed his eyes. Devyn was exhausted from the long day of work, but he did not want to sleep just yet, so the human quickly pressed the number for the ground floor as the doors closed. Denzyl looked down at the green-eyed with slight surprise before a small smile came to his lips.
"Where are we going?" Denzyl inquired before placing a sweet kiss on the top of Devyn's head.
"It's a surprise," Devyn returned with a smile as he looked up at the demon who returned the smile before wrapping his arms around the brown-haired. The two remained in that position as the elevator made its way down the sky-reacher and landed on the ground level.
Devyn tightened his grip around the demon's hand slightly as he led Denzyl out of the elevator and into the lobby. The two evening receptionists at the front desk bowed toward the CEO as he walked past with the tall, crimson-haired man and exited the building's lobby.
Denzyl followed along contently as the happy human brought him through the streets and to the edge of the river. The two continued along the river until they came to a bridge that connected the two banks. Devyn kept his hold on the demon's hand as the two entered the flow of pedestrians crossing the bridge.
