"So, what was it that you wanted to tell me?" Devyn inquired as he set his fork and knife on his now-empty plate. The human and demon had shared a nice dinner together after getting preparations ready for Miren's celebratory banquet, and now Devyn was ready to hear what Denzyl had to say regarding the results of the mystery report Denzyl had run. Denzyl responded to Devyn's inquiry by rising from his chair and going to the kitchen bar where an envelope was placed.
Taking the envelope from the bar, Denzyl brought it to Devyn who accepted it and quietly opened it while Denzyl retook his seat at the table. Curious as to what had taken up so much of Denzyl's time the past few weeks, Devyn did not waste any time in pulling out the several sheets of paper that were stored within the envelope. Physical sheets of paper were rare to hold, so Devyn knew the documents were sensitive and most likely originals. The human's brows furrowed when he read his parent's names at the top of the form which he soon found to be a contract to connect the companies VIANT and Vaumyr and Co. through a treaty between marriage.
This was the document that had started Devyn's misery. This was what gave Wil the power to force Devyn into a relationship he loathed. The moment Devyn's parents died, their wills and the contract went into effect.
"Where did you find this?" Devyn asked, clenching his jaw to stop the emotions that were threatening to take over.
"It was hidden in Wil's office," Denzyl answered. "It was created and signed two days before your parents' death." Denzyl leaned forward to rest his arms on the table before he continued, "The report I received was an analysis of the signatures. The form itself is true and legally binding...but...your parents' signatures were forged." A gasp left Devyn's lips when he heard Denzyl's words. "Devyn, your parents never signed the contract."
It was as if Denzyl's words unlocked all the emotions that Devyn had been storing inside him all those years, and they came flowing out accompanied by unending tears. It started with one big teardrop that rolled down Devyn's cheek as he looked up from the document to see Denzyl reach out and take his hand. Relief washed over Devyn. His parents had not sold him to that monster. The contract had been forged. The very thing that tortured Devyn really did not exist. Devyn had always known his parents could never do such a thing, but Wil's words of "your parents gave you to me" and "you're mine because your parents wanted it so" always threatened to shatter Devyn's trust in his mother and father.
But Denzyl's discovery proved that his parents never did such a thing. Devyn's vision was now blurred over from the well of tears in his eyes, and he could stop his cries no more. Hands clenching and crumpling the paper, Devyn's head bowed as his body racked with sobs.
Now, it was done.

Devyn woke feeling lighter than he ever had before. Peace resided within the human as he felt Denzyl's soft breath on his neck. The sun had just begun to rise, its light filling the room with a soft and warm glow. Sensing his love stir, Denzyl tightened his arms around Devyn and brought the human to be flushed with his chest. "Good morning," Devyn greeted the demon as he rolled over to face Denzyl. The demon inhaled deeply before opening his stormy eyes and gazing at Devyn softly before silently bringing the human under his chin and planting a soft kiss atop Devyn's head. "Good morning, love." Denzyl's voice was deep and soothing and was just what Devyn needed.
"Are you hungry?" Devyn inquired, piquing the demon's interest. That was usually Denzyl's line. Was Devyn going to make breakfast?
"Starving," Denzyl answered, his eyes still drooping as he recovered from the deep sleep.
