Chapter 10
I was just thinking. I spoke to Ragnar telepathically as I looked over Liam's shoulder to watch him research my uncle.
What were you thinking about, Princess? He asked.
You said you were a little over a thousand years old, yes? I glanced over in his direction and locked eyes with him for a second before looking back at the laptop.
I could hear the gears working as he tried to follow my train of thought in his voice when he said, yes?
Were you a Viking? Because with your tattoos I've spotted so far, you act like one. I looked over at him again to gauge his reaction. He smirked as he stared at me.
Is that a turn on? He asked me. I rested my chin in my palm, watching his movements.
It's got a high probability. I grinned at him and winked before turning my attention back to Liam. I caught Liam looking at me and raised an eyebrow in response.
"What?" I asked him.
"What was that?" He asked with a frown.
I shrugged. "We were having a conversation."
"What? Like just by looking at each other?" He asked as he looked over at Ragnar, who was chugging a bottle of blood.
"Something like that, yeah." I nodded with a smile and leaned forward to whisper in his ear. "Are you busy right now?"
He leaned in so he was able to whisper in my ear. "You know that I am but I can stop for my Queen." He leaned back to look in my eyes. I watched as the heat built in his eyes and I bit my lip, the movement drawing his attention.
"Shall we?" I stood straight and held out my hand to him, not even thinking about it. He placed his hand in mine and as he's standing up with me, Jaxson and Aris came running up to us.
"We have a problem." Aris said breathlessly.
"Okay? Are you going to leave us in suspense or are you going to tell us?" Liam said with annoyance written on his face.
"We've spotted three black vans circling this place trying to find an entrance. So far they haven't located ours but it's only a matter of time. We need to go deeper and put the Princess in a safe place so we can handle this." Jaxson said gruffly.
"You think I'm just going to be okay with you guys risking your lives for me and me hiding somewhere? Obviously you don't know me well enough because I won't be doing that." I growled out.
Ragnar rested his hand on my shoulder and I looked up at him with a glare. "Don't you start with 'you're my mate, I must protect you' bullshit."
"If I have to tie you up in some hole down here, don't doubt it, princess. You know I will. We're only looking out for your safety and you need to understand that. You can't just go out there with guns blazing and think you're invincible because you're not. If you get shot in the heart, you're dead and won't come back. We," he points to each of my mates, "won't let that happen because you are the future of the vampire race if it is to survive." His nostrils flared as he growled out.
"Fine! If any of you gets hurt or dies on me, I'm going to find a way to bring you back and kill you myself." I stalked away to a room that had my things in it and found my blade, placing it in the back of my leggings underneath my shirt before returning to my mates. "Where to?" I followed after Ragnar to the room I was supposed to stay in and once I entered, he spun me around, pulling my body flush against his and kissed me hard on my lips.
"Stay here until one of us comes to get you. Don't leave this room. Please." He cupped my face in his hands and stared into my eyes.
"Okay." I said quietly. "All of you, come back to me please." I lifted up on my toes to kiss him softly and he walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
Please, come back to me. I thought to myself as I looked around the room.
****
I'd been pacing the entirety of the room, making circles and zigzags to keep myself occupied. At another point I was leaning against a wall, tossing my blade in the air and catching it, repeatedly.
It's been too long. If they're not back yet, I'm going to find them. I looked around the room for another exit, knowing Ragnar locked the door behind him for my safety and to make sure I stayed. I spotted a vent and looked up into it. I can probably fit through there. I looked around for something to stand on and spotted a couple of wooden boxes. I dragged them over to the vent and stepped onto the boxes. I stopped my movements when I heard a sound outside the door. Listening closely, I heard someone on the other side trying to get in. As soon as I heard rustling on the other side of it I started breaking down the vent, dropping it on the floor and climbing in quickly when I felt an explosion rock the bunker and the door blast into the room. I shimmied up into the vent and heard talking underneath me so I stopped and listened in.
"Where is she?" I heard a gruff voice ask.
"I don't know, the door was locked. She was supposed to be in here." Someone else responded.
I heard the gruff voice speak softly and then steps came closer to the vent. The two men looked into the vent and spotted me.
Shit.
"There she is! I need someone who can fit in there to grab her." The gruff voice said.
"Time to go." I shimmied further into the vent and crawled towards the end until I reached a split in the vents. I heard banging as someone climbed into the vent system with me and I took a sharp left, moving deeper into the system. Listening for movement coming closer, I crawled faster and then I dropped into darkness.
Landing on my feet, I looked around. I was in this large circular space with vents all around me. I saw one vent that looked like light coming through so I used my speed to run over and tear the vent off, stopping myself before I climbed inside. I ran over to the opposite wall, hearing the noises come closer and rip off another vent. I ran back over to the original vent and climbed in, crawling faster to get away from the circular room and followed the light. I felt a hand wrap around my ankle and I hissed, kicking my foot out and hitting my mark. Hearing a yelp of pain, I maneuvered myself faster through the tunnel. I finally spotted an opening with the light coming through and climbed up to a vent going to the outside. The lamppost lighting up the area, I pushed with all of my strength and the vent flew out of the concrete holding it. I climbed out quickly before running over and pushing the vent cover back on tightly. Looking at my surroundings, I saw and heard gunfire almost a half mile away from my position.
I heard a stick crack behind me and I spun around in time to catch a knife being thrown at me. I tossed the knife back at the man, catching him in his neck, not stopping to watch as he fell. I ran quickly into the darkness.
