Chapter 2
My heart slammed into my chest after waking from the nightmare and my skin felt clammy. I sat up and swung my feet over the side, putting my head in my hands. Rubbing my face, I stood and decided to take another shower to wash away the nightmare. I got dressed with the clothes from the closet, the shirt being a bit revealing for my taste. Cleavage was more pronounced than what I'm used to and decided to go downstairs to get some blood.
After placing my blade in the back of my jeans, I speed downstairs, listening to the snores coming from upstairs. Opening the fridge, I found a bottle of blood and drank some. I felt the air shift around me and spun around, kicking out quickly while holding the bottle open in my hand. My kick was blocked so I attacked with more speed, quickly setting the bottle down and jumped up to land on the person's shoulders. Wrapping my legs around their neck I fell backwards, taking them with me and flung them across the room. My fangs dropped and I growled menacingly as I crouched slightly.
"Holy shit! Did you guys see that? She got the drop on Ragnar!" Liam exclaimed upstairs. I looked up in confusion and back down to where Ragnar was starting to stand. My fangs retracted as I scowled now that I realized I wasn't in any danger.
Ragnar stood and looked to me with his fists clenching, his knuckles turning white.
"Pen might look innocent but she's definitely not." Aris chuckled in amusement as they came downstairs.
"He snuck up on me." I stated. "I don't like it when people sneak up on me because of that very reason. I could've killed you." I said to Ragnar.
He snorted in disbelief. "I highly doubt that."
"Whatever you say, Ragnar. Keep looking out for your man card even though I just took it from you." I grab my bottle of blood and take a swallow, staring at him with an eyebrow raised.
He growled ominously as he started to advance towards me. I grinned with my fangs bared again as I set the bottle down.
Liam stepped in his way as he advanced and put a hand to Ragnar's chest. "Calm down dude. She's messing with you.... somewhat." He snickers.
Ragnar glared at Liam and ripped his hand off his chest. He continued to make his way over to me, staring me down. I could feel my heart speed up in my chest with his close proximity and I swayed towards him. He opened the fridge to grab a bottle for himself and walked over to the couch to sit down and stare into the fireplace.
I shook my head in disbelief and took another swallow before I decided to down the rest of the blood. I look towards Liam.
"Too early to start talking about mates or no?" I ask.
Liam looked away from Ragnar to me and shrugged. "I can tell you now if that's what you'd like."
I nod and walk over to my position I had last night on the couch after throwing my bottle away.
The other three sit away from me on the couch and get settled.
Liam rubs his hands together and leans forward to look at me. "What do you know about mates?"
I frown. "Nothing except for what's happened in the last twelve hours. The orange glow you guys got when you first looked at me and what you told me about my eyes with purple."
"Which I think is crazy by the way! Her eyes being violet has to tell us that she is the one true heir to the Vampire throne. It's unbelievable that you wouldn't be." Aris exclaimed.
Jaxson and Liam nodded at the same time, Ragnar ignoring us altogether.
"Okay, normally when a vampire meets his or her mate, there's only one. Not four. In the history of our race, there's only ever been two powerful vampires to have more than one mate. As I'm sure you heard our discussion last night," he raises an eyebrow at me with a knowing smirk, "for you to have four mates tells us you're either extremely powerful now or will be."
