newsiestober day 12 - moon
hehehe i'll show you guys some of my notes while writing this during my lunch period while my friends were getting lunch lol (my gods king of new york just came on- bLesS mY eArs bEn cOok-) (yES BROOKLYN'S HEREEEEEEEEEE)The October nights were always chilly in the lodging house, but that didn't stop Jack and Crutchie from sleeping on the fire escape. Or as Jack liked to call it, "his penthouse".
"Heya Jack?" Race whispered, prying open the window next to his bunk. "You awake?"
"I am now." Jack smiled softly.
"Oh- no- no, never mind." Race shrunk away.
"What is it Racer, I'm already awake." Jack shoved his head through the half open window.
"Nothing." Race attempted to close the blinds. "Just a bad dream."
"Do you want me to come inside?" Jack stopped the blinds from closing, shoving the window open even more.
"No," Race shook his head, no longer arguing. "I'll just- I'll just come to you."
The small blonde-haired-boy climbed through the window.
"Wanna talk about it?" Jack patted the spot next to him.
"No," Race shook his head. "It's just cold out here."
"C'mere then." Jack laughed, letting the blonde-haired-boy curl up at his side, throwing a thin blanket over them."better?"
"Much." Race nodded his head. "Can you... can you tell me a story 'bout Santa Fe?"
"Yeah," Jack's smile widened. "See, out in Santa Fe-"
"Are we talking about Santa Fe?" Crutchie sat up with a yawn.
"Yeah, c'mere Crutch." Jack let the other boy curl up on his other side, both blankets and body heat warming each other up.
"Are you okay Tony?" Crutchie turned to the younger boy.
"Better now that you're here." Race beamed slightly at the use of his name.
"Good." Crutchie nodded in satisfaction.
"Now in Santa Fe, the sky is always blue,"
"Even at night?" Race perked up.
"Even at night." Jack bopped his little brother's nose.
"It's just real dark blue, right Jackie? Tell 'im." Crutchie urged, excited to hear the story again.
"Yeah, and it never gets cold there. Always warm- but not burning hot. A good hot," Jack grinned at Crutchie.
"What about the sun? Ain't that what keeps us warm? You said the sun in Santa Fe is better than the sun here! Does it never go down there?" Race asked with wide eyes.
Jack thought for a moment, contemplating on how to answer the question.
"In Santa Fe, the moon is our friend, see that grey thing in the sky?" Jack pointed to the moon.
"The small one, covered in clouds." Crutchie nodded.
A small yawn escaped Race's lips, making Jack pause."Hey, how 'bout we tuck in for tonight, ay?"
"No, I wanna keep listening about Santa Fe." Race said stubbornly.
"Well the moon is just as good as the sun. Ten times bigger, no clouds ever taking away it's light. It-"
He paused once again when he heard soft snores coming from both his younger brothers.
"The moon watches over you, jus' like I do." Jack pressed a kiss to both their foreheads. "Night kiddos."
