I'm just gonna do this ahead of time. I'm sorry. You'll understand when you get to the reason I'm apologizing.
"No after school training today." Shouta gives Katsuki a look as if daring him to complain. "Hizashi and I have to finish preparations for your final exams for this term, so instead, you're going to the mall." He hands a card to Hitoshi. "Mic said use as much as you want. I say within reason which is why I'm leaving it in Hitoshi’s care. That includes you too, Denki, so don't worry about not having any money."
Denki blushes in embarrassment. How did Shouta know that he didn't have any money? He doesn't ask, though, and just follows his friends to the train station so they can head to the mall.
It's been such a long time since he last got to go to the mall with his friends, and he's excited to actually get to spend time as friends instead of training. With Ahmya and Ren’s rules, he isn't allowed time for friends, but his adoptive parents didn't need to know that he wasn’t training that day, they could think he was training and attempting to gather intel. Since Shouta had found out about the Jirou situation, he's told Denki a couple things that would be considered useful, but wasn't too overly dangerous for villains to know. He decided that he'll give Denki something to tell them once or twice a month to make them think the blonde is actually trying, but not getting much in way of information. He only hopes that it'll be enough to keep him safe for the time being, until Shouta can find a way to get him away from the villains, him and the baby that Ahmya is carrying.
"You never told me how your internship went with Papa," Hitoshi’s voice knocks Denki out of his head.
Denki shrugs, looking at his anxious friend. Hitoshi is looking around as if searching for someone, and he seems to get sad every time whoever it is doesn’t magically appear. "It was okay, I guess. I mean, I didn't have to try and hide who I am, but it was really boring, and awkward. It was really, really awkward." He looks down for a moment, his smile faltering for a second or two before bounding back into place. "Jirou was there, too. I know he meant well, but your Papa only made things worse with his comments. He kept mentioning how cheating is wrong and about communicating when things make you uncomfortable in a relationship every time she was anywhere near me. I wanted to just die of embarrassment."
Hitoshi focuses back on Denki. They didn't know why they kept searching for Monoma, the quirk should have worn off by now, but no matter what, he continued to find himself searching and longing for both loud blondes whenever they weren't there. "How does Papa even know? I didn't tell him what happened since you said the relationship was a big secret."
Denki shakes his head. "I told your dad about what happened, and I guess he wasn't going to keep it a secret from his husband." He shrugs. "I mean, they both know my situation with my adoptive parents, so he probably assumed it was okay for Mic to know about Jirou too."
Denki isn't sure at what point they walked off, but Katsuki and Izuku aren't near them anymore. He rolls his eyes at the realization that the pair obviously decided to give Denki and Hitoshi some time to themselves. He isn't entirely sure if he's glad they did or not.
"So, you glad to be free of that quirk?" Denki changes the subject. "I'm sure it's been annoying being forced to be in love with your best friend and an annoying bastard from class B."
Hitoshi’s shoulders drop. His voice is low as he responds. "I'm not sure I'm actually free of it. If it was just you I think about day and night, I'd know things were back to normal, but…" Hitoshi trails off realizing what they just said. He starts hyperventilating a little worried that Denki would catch on to the meaning behind what they had said. "Shit," he breathes out.
Denki’s mind is reeling. Did Hitoshi just say that thinking about him was normal? Things start to fall into place in his mind. Hitoshi didn't notice anything different in his feelings towards him, not because the quirk didn't work, but because he already had feelings for Denki. Part of him wants to confront Hitoshi about his feelings, wants to tell them how he feels, wants to see if the two of them could be together, but he's afraid. "Do you think it's lasting longer because it attached you to two people?" He asks, specifically avoiding anything to do with how he feels about Hitoshi.
