Tiana clipped her earrings on with ease as she watched Betty in the reflection of the mirror grab her coat so she could slip it on. Her Mother had set up a date with Wylan Van Eck, he was the son of Jan Van Eck, so it's evident that Vera set this up for political reasons but Tiana was prepared to go along with it because it would be the right thing for the business. "How are you feeling?" Betty asked softly as she fastened the coat around Tiana who let out a slight sigh. "I feel okay, a little nervous but okay. I think this is it, Betty, I'm tired of going on dates and I know that this date would give me a lot more pull in the merchant business, so I think regardless of what happens on the date and how he treats me. I'm going to marry this man."
For a second Betty didn't say anything, she just pressed her lips together and walked over to the hat stand that was in the corner and grabbed Tiana's hat to fasten it on her head carefully. "Well, I wouldn't make your decision so quickly. Just see how this date turns out first." Betty said quickly as she carefully pinned Tiana's hair the right way so it would lay perfectly under the hat. Before Tiana could retort they heard the doorbell echoing throughout the house telling Tiana that her driver arrived.
Tiana let out a deep breath before looking at herself in the mirror, she smoothes her dress down one more time before she nods to herself in the mirror. She sends Betty a smile and turns around walking towards the door, Betty gets to the door before her so she can open it for her, an action that Tiana makes sure to send her a smile for. Tiana hears the click of her bedroom door as she's walking away, Betty walks a little quicker to make sure she gets the door for her. Tiana squints to find the car, her driver is standing on the passenger side so he can grab the door for Tiana. "Thank you, sir." Tiana nods at the man when he opens the door for her and Betty.
She watches as Betty scoots over so she's sitting behind the driver and then Tiana gets in, she crosses her leg and waits until the driver is in before telling him where he needs to go. "Cilla's Fry please," Tiana instructed, the driver paused for a second before nodding. Tiana was aware of why he paused, Cilla's Fry would not be a place that Tiana would ever go to but Wylan picked it so Tiana was forced to go, and she was going to look like she was enjoying herself whether she had to fake it or not.
She looked next to her at Betty who was looking out the window watching everything as they drove by, she had a sudden urge to reach for Betty's hand that was resting next to her. She pushed the feeling down and looked at her manicured hands that were resting in her lap. As they were getting closer to the restaurant, a moment of insecurity slipped into Tiana's mind, which was very rare for her. She was so focused on settling with Wylan that she didn't stop to think about what if Wylan didn't like her, and Tiana didn't know if she could take that.
She felt her heartbeat quicken at the thought, she tried to take a deep breath but it felt like a rock was resting on her chest preventing her from breathing. Tiana reached over and tapped Betty on the finger who turned towards her with a smile but that smile dropped when she saw Tiana's face. "Hey, what's wrong?" Betty asked as she scooted closer to Tiana who just pointed to her chest. "You can't catch your breath?" At Tiana's nod, Betty started to grab Tiana's hand but she stopped herself. "Can I touch you?" Tiana quickly nodded and grabbed Betty's hand quickly. Betty smiled slightly before taking Tiana's hand and placing it over her heart. "Follow my breathing," Betty instructed before taking deep exaggerated breaths for Tiana to follow.
Tiana didn't know how long it was, it felt like hours but in reality, it was only a few seconds before Tiana could feel her lungs filling with air as she took a deep breath. She caught herself before she whimpered when Betty let go of her hand once she noticed that Tiana was breathing properly again. "Are you alright?" Betty asks Tiana in her a soft voice, Tiana looks at the entrance of Cilla's Fry which was a small place and it looked dirty to Tiana, she thought about asking Betty to turn around but instead, she nodded and reached for the door handle. "I'm fine, let's do this."
