Gayoon at least expected it when she woke up.
The headache. The one that throbbed like a metronome, steady and relentless. Her head felt like it was filled with cotton, and the light from the window seemed to burn through her eyelids. It wasn't the kind of headache that could be fixed with a couple of painkillers. No, it was more like the aftertaste of something heavy, something that lingered—like the haze of a hangover that wasn't hers.
She hadn't been out partying or drinking. No, she was far from the noisy, chaotic life of bars and clubs. But somehow, her connection with him—the one that felt so wrong, yet so undeniably there—made her feel the aftereffects as though she'd been part of the chaos. She could still feel his presence, like a faint pulse somewhere in her chest, and she hated it.
Or maybe she didn't.
She hated how he could still haunt her thoughts even when she tried to distance herself. It wasn't about the bond. No, it was something else. It was the feeling that, despite everything, she still cared. And that realization made her angry. Angry at herself, for still being tangled in his web, for still letting his presence affect her.
But the real question was: Can she really ignore him?
No.
Because, as much as she wanted to pretend she could let go, the truth was that when she finally regained some composure, she found herself reaching for her phone. Her fingers hovered over the screen, uncertain, before they moved on their own accord. She didn't want to, but she couldn't stop herself. She had to make sure he was okay. She couldn't help herself. Even though every fiber of her being screamed that she should stay angry, stay distant, her thumb pressed the keys, sending a message into the void, hoping—no, praying—that he would feel at least a fraction of guilt.

Donghyuck woke up to a loud, screeching sound. It wasn't his alarm clock, but something that pierced the haze of his hangover with the precision of a needle. His limbs jerked in the air, his body shooting up as his eyes darted around the room in confusion. His head swam with dizziness, and his temples pounded in protest as his mind tried to catch up with the present.
