Donghyuck came home to the unmistakable signs of someone invading his space. The TV was blaring, filling the room with the cheerful tunes of a Disney movie, and a familiar voice was enthusiastically singing along.

He sighed and placed his keys on the counter loudly enough to be heard over the din. A head popped around the corner, revealing Yizhuo's grinning face.

"Where were you!?" Yizhuo called out, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"Somewhere," Donghyuck replied, his tone nonchalant as he trudged toward his room. "Can you turn down the volume? It's late."

"You're not even going to ask what I did with your card?"

"Lost it?"

"Rude!" she pouted, crossing her arms. "I was careful with it. I bought something—it's in your room."

Donghyuck paused mid-step, narrowing his eyes. "If it's another outfit, I swear, I don't need more clothes."

Yizhuo rolled her eyes. "Who said it's for you? Just go check it—and, oh! You can tell her it's from you. It was your money."

Familiar words.

With a shake of his head, Donghyuck opened the door to his room. His gaze immediately landed on a neatly wrapped box sitting on his desk, his card perched atop it alongside a fragrant note. He tore it open.

soulmate ♡

Donghyuck chuckled, instantly recognizing Yizhuo's familiar flourish in the cursive letters.

She's been doing this ever since she learned about Gayoon—shifting her purchases from frivolous things to thoughtful gifts, all aimed at his soulmate. Curious, Donghyuck opened the box.

Inside was a collection of study supplies: two beautifully designed journals, pens adorned with pastel designs, sticky notes in fun shapes, highlighters, correction tape, and more. It was practical, charming, and completely unlike the usual trinkets Yizhuo used to buy.

Donghyuck's lips curled into a smile as he reached for a pen, testing his handwriting against the note. With great care, he added a second line beneath hers:

At precisely 11 a.m. the next day, Donghyuck pulled up outside Gayoon's dorm. To his surprise, she was already waiting for him.

As she hopped into the passenger seat, her radiant smile greeted him.

"Where should we eat?" Donghyuck asked as he started the car.

"I'm not too hungry yet," she said, pondering. "Maybe chicken?"

"Chicken it is," he chuckled. "Unlimited buckets?"

Her eyes lit up. "You know me too well."

They spent lunch laughing and indulging in their shared love of chicken, turning it into a lighthearted competition to see who could eat the most. Afterward, they swung by a café to pick up snacks and drinks for their study session before heading to the library.

As they parked, Gayoon reached for the box in the backseat, assuming it was Donghyuck's.

"It's yours," he said casually, nudging the note.

She frowned in confusion, pulling it closer to inspect it.

"It has your name on it," he explained with a smile.

Curious, Gayoon opened the box and gasped. The cute, colorful study materials left her stunned.

"This is so thoughtful," she murmured, her voice tinged with emotion. "Where did you get this?"

Donghyuck smirked. "Not me. My sister."

"You have a sister?"

"Yeah, a younger one. She's been dying to meet you and figured gifts were the best way to get your attention."

Gayoon's cheeks flushed at the idea of meeting his family.

As they settled into the library, Gayoon felt an odd sense of warmth. Donghyuck had changed so much in just a short time. She still doubted if his transformation was sincere or fleeting, but there was something undeniable in the way he looked at her now.

The soulmate bond between them, once strained and brittle, was slowly knitting itself back together.

They studied for hours, the quiet companionship between them speaking volumes. At one point, Gayoon caught herself watching Donghyuck as he scribbled notes, a soft smile playing on her lips.

Her hand brushed against his on the table, and when he looked up, she leaned over and pressed a quick kiss to his lips.

Surprised but delighted, Donghyuck smiled. "What was that for?"

"For trying," she said simply, her voice warm.

And though they didn't say it out loud, they both knew this was the beginning of something new—a relationship built on mutual understanding and a willingness to grow together.

One step at a time, they were finding their way.
