The midday sun warmed the campus grounds, a gentle breeze weaving through the trees and carrying the faint hum of conversations and laughter. Gayoon strolled along the cobbled paths, enjoying the break from her air-conditioned classes. The weather was too perfect to waste indoors—a rare balance of warmth and coolness.
Having just finished a quick snack, she decided to stretch her legs and soak in the lively atmosphere. Along the way, she greeted teachers and students with polite nods and smiles, returning their friendly acknowledgments. Her path led her past a few couples seated under the shade of sprawling trees, sharing quiet conversations or simply basking in each other's presence.
It wasn't hard to tell they were soulmates. There was a unique warmth in the way they held hands or exchanged glances—an aura that seemed to wrap around them like a cocoon.
Soulmates, Gayoon thought, the word lingering sweetly in her mind.
What an enchanting idea—a destined person, chosen by the universe and marked with a simple tattoo. Someone to share the highs and lows, the rollercoaster of life.
A faint smile played on her lips as she walked past the couples, content with her thoughts. She knew the small ache of longing would've accompanied this scene weeks ago, but now? Now, it brought her a soft sense of pride, knowing she, too, had someone waiting for her in this strange, destined world.
After deciding she'd had enough exercise for the day, Gayoon made her way back toward her building. The familiar facade of the Legal Management Building came into view, but something unusual caught her attention.
Standing just outside was a petite girl, a few inches shorter than Gayoon, clutching a campus map with a look of pure confusion. Her light purple hair was styled in braided pigtails, and she wore an adorable mini dress that perfectly matched her playful aura.
Gayoon chuckled softly, watching the girl's furrowed brows and puckered lips as she glanced between the map and the surrounding buildings. She looked utterly lost.
Unable to resist, Gayoon approached her with a friendly smile. "Anything I can help with?"
The girl let out a small oh before flashing a shy smile. "May I know if the College of Law is on this side? I'm really bad at reading maps, so..."
Gayoon nodded, gesturing toward the adjacent building. "You're in front of the Legal Management Building. The one next to it is the Law Building."
Relief washed over the girl's face. "Oh, thank God!" she sighed dramatically. "If someone had just told me where oppa's soulmate was, I wouldn't have turned into Dora the Explorer here."
Gayoon raised an eyebrow, amused. "Your brother's soulmate? Are you looking for someone?"
"I'm desperately looking!" the girl groaned. "No one will tell me who—"
She froze mid-sentence, her eyes locking onto something on Gayoon's collarbone.
"That," the girl pointed, her voice suddenly animated. "Is that a tattoo?"
Gayoon instinctively touched the area. "Ah, this? Yeah, it's my soulmate tattoo."
The girl's expression lit up as though she'd just uncovered a hidden treasure. "And that necklace!" She leaned closer, her excitement palpable. "That's Tiffany, right?"
