The warmth of Gayoon's hand brushing through Donghyuck's hair was the only thing keeping his nerves in check as they waited outside the mock trial room. Despite her calming presence, his restless energy manifested in constant movement—playing with her fingers, leaning against her shoulder, or brushing his arm against hers.
"They're taking longer than usual," Donghyuck muttered, glancing at his watch.
"Jeno's group is probably facing technical issues," Gayoon said with a reassuring smile. "Relax, love. You'll do great."
Donghyuck frowned. "I feel restless."
"That's because you stayed up all night," she chided lightly, clicking her tongue. "I told you to sleep and rest your brain."
"Okay, okay, sorry." He leaned further into her touch, letting her fingers work their magic.
The trial room door creaked open, and Jeno emerged, his group trailing behind him.
"Fucking finally," Jeno sighed, ruffling his hair. His eyes lit up when he saw Donghyuck.
"We had a tech issue, but it's sorted now," Jeno assured him. "Go show them what you've got, Hyuck."
Donghyuck exhaled sharply and stood, turning to Gayoon. She met him with an encouraging smile, which he returned with a soft kiss on her forehead.
"Thank you," he murmured before gathering his team and heading into the room.
Gayoon found herself sitting with Jeno afterward, as promised.
"He'll be fine," Jeno said, sensing her lingering worry. "Honestly, I think having you here makes him feel safe enough to show his nerves for once. Normally, he'd be all stoic, pretending nothing fazes him."
Gayoon chuckled. "He's allowed to lean on me. That's what soulmates do."
"Still," Jeno said, smiling, "thank you for not giving up on him."
"Jen, you've thanked me enough. I won't leave him—I love being his soulmate."
The outdoor court had drawn a small crowd, including familiar faces from their circle of friends.
Gayoon joined Yuna, Jisung, Jaemin, and Renjun on the bleachers, watching Mark effortlessly shoot three-pointers. Snacks were passed around, and casual banter filled the air.
Renjun, always the candid one, commented, "Hyuck's lucky to have you. I'm surprised you two got along. I've never liked him much."
"I'm hurt," Donghyuck's voice came from behind, drawing everyone's attention.
Gayoon turned to him with a wide smile, opening her arms. He wasted no time sitting in front of her on the lower bench, leaning back into her embrace.
"Have you forgotten how I drove you home drunk after you fought with Mark?" Donghyuck said, raising a brow at Renjun.
Renjun scoffed. "That's just one time. Last I checked, you were making out with Kun-ge's wife's sister. Gayoon, how did you even notice him?"
Gayoon laughed, brushing Donghyuck's hair. "Oh, I noticed. I just didn't know he was my soulmate back then."
"Oh, you two know each other?" Mark's eyes widened in confusion.
"Baby, you forgot my friends list again," Renjun groaned, shooting Mark a pointed look.
Mark was quick to apologize. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!"
Gayoon chuckled, stepping in to defuse the tension. "We've known each other through Chenle—he's a close friend of ours."
She gave Mark a playful look, silently adding, Pray for Mark Lee. Renjun's memory is not something to mess with.
The banter continued until Donghyuck checked his phone. "Yi's on her way."
"Why?" Gayoon asked.
"She's bored," he replied with a chuckle, squeezing her hand.
Before they could continue, an excited voice cut through the air.
"HELLO, YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!"
All eyes turned to Yizhuo, who entered with a beaming smile. But it wasn't her alone—beside her stood a man with a sheepish grin.
"I have an announcement," Yizhuo declared, practically glowing.
She held the man's hand, looking at him with sparkling eyes.
"I finally met my soulmate!"
Donghyuck's jaw tightened as he registered the man beside her.
"Him?" he asked, his voice sharp.
"Him," Yizhuo confirmed. "Oppa, you know him?"
Gayoon gasped. "Liu Yangyang!"
The said man chuckled nervously, bowing slightly. "Nice to meet you again."
Donghyuck froze, his mind struggling to process.
Yeah, leedonghyuck.exe stopped functioning.
