Chase walked inside the building with Ella. He looked around himself as he always does.
"So, tea again?" Ella asked the German shepherd as he nodded. He sat down on the pillow that was in the room and waited till Ella brings him the tea.
"So Chase," she started as she placed the tray with tea in front of him, "how was your day?'
"I'm gonna be honest, not good," Chase said, slightly scared. "I swore at Ryder again."
"It happens a lot. What was the reason?" "I was mad at myself for what I've done, so I cursed at everyone and swore at Ryder when he wanted to help me," Chase explained to his therapist.
"I see. If I may ask, what have you done?" Ella asked as Chase slightly whimpered.
"You know the one that I had and probably still have feelings for?" Ella nodded. "I kinda shouted at her and now she must hate me." This got Ella's attention.
"You mean, you shouted at Skye?" Ella asked, clearly surprised by what she was hearing.
"No, it's not and never was Skye. It's Sweetie." Chase clarified. Ella wrote something in her notepad.
"And then today she came to me and I swore at her. She will never talk to me." Chase said, letting a few tears out. Ella moved to him and wrapped him in a friendly hug. She was his therapist, but they were also a family.
"Chase, do you have plans on how to make it right?" She asked after she broke the hug.
"I want to give her the flowers that I bought and apologize to her," Chase said. He then went on to explain what they talked about the night.
"Wait, Chase." Chase hummed in response. "I think I found the cure."
"What do you mean?" Chase asked confused.
"You talk about Sweetie a lot, you never denied that you love her. Try being with her, spend time together, and so on. Maybe you'll feel better." Ella explained, closing her notepad.
Chase thought for a while. He did feel something towards Sweetie, maybe it was love, maybe not. Sure, he wasn't going to tell her that right at the moment, but he thought Ella had a great idea.
"Wow, thanks. I'll try to ask her for a walk." "Great. And try to calm yourself when you feel the urge to shout, okay?" Ella suggested, to which Chase nodded.
"Great, so I'll see you next time, the day before your birthday," Ella said, getting up and walking towards the door, with Chase behind her.
"Thanks, Ella, bye." Chase waved his paw and closed the door behind him. He then smiled and turned around.
But when he saw Sweetie standing there, he thought he was going to faint.
"Oh, hi Chase." She said and smiled.
"Hi, Sweetie, what's up?" "Nothing much. Do you have something to do right now?" She asked the german shepherd, to which he shook his head.
"May I then invite you for a walk?" Sweetie asked as Chase nodded.
He knew that Sweetie probably forgave him, so he mustn't screw it up now.
"Do you like hiking Chase?" "Not really my preferred activity." He responded. Sweetie nodded and smiled.
"Hmmm, let's go get ice cream, you love ice cream, don't you?" Sweetie asked, moving closer to Chase. He nodded and focused on Sweetie for a while.
They both started walking towards the small ice cream shop close to them. Chase looked at Sweetie a few times, to see if she was angry.
"I know I am beautiful, but just tell me if you want to stare at me," Sweetie said, letting out a small giggle as Chase blushed. "Aww, sorry. You can look at me, I don't really care."
"Sweetie, how can you be nice to me after everything I did to you?" Chase asked, feeling the urge to know that answer. Sweetie just smiled and laid her head on his shoulder as they were approaching the ice cream shop.
Chase felt strange. As Sweetie was this close to him, he hoped that he didn't screw up and that Sweetie wasn't doing this out of pity.
They arrived at the ice cream shop and looked at the selection. Many unanswered questions were in Chase's head, but he needed to answer only one important now.
"What would you like, Chase?" Sweetie asked, looking at the freezer. Chase came closer to her and stood on his hind legs.
"I will have....strawberry and..... blueberry, one scoop each," Chase said and the cashier nodded. He then turned his head to see Sweetie looking over the flavors. The cashier handed Chase the bowl and Chase got down.
"And I would like vanilla and yogurt," Sweetie said, handing out the card she owned to pay for it. After a while, she got her ice cream and got down to waiting for Chase, who did not even touch his ice cream yet.
"Wow, you waited for me?" Chase nodded and smiled. Sweetie put her ice cream next to his and sat beside him, merely touching his paw with hers.
No words were spoken, they both felt the tension between them, and neither of them could break it. Sweetie, still feeling guilty, wanted to say something, but remembered what Marshall told her. But she spoke anyway.
"Is the ice cream good?" She asked, facepalming herself in her mind.
"Yeah, great. Thanks for it." Chase said, taking a bite of his ice cream. She just smiled and did the same. Sweetie didn't know what to say or talk about, but then she got an idea.
"Tell me some of your interests." She said, as she looked at Chase, who seemed to be confused. It took him a while to recover but nodded.
"Well, I like running, I crown myself as the fastest pup in Adventure Bay. Then there is my job, which I love to do, and then..." He stopped and looked at Sweetie. He wanted to cry, but seeing her made him better. Sweetie then put her paw on his.
"...just, thinking about the future." He finished, looking up to the bright blue sky. Sweetie was speechless but happy that he lives the life he wants.
"What about the future?" "We aren't immortal, Sweetie. Just things like would I have someone after me? Or what if I end up on the street? I don't really know." Chase explained to the terrier.
Sweetie thought about it as well. Chase was right, what happens if our owner abandons us? What would happen a few years later? Many unanswered questions now grew in her head and she shed a tear-out.
Chase noticed it and shook her paw off his and wrapped her in a tight, yet loving hug. She was a softie as every girl. Sweetie started crying and buried her face into his shoulder. She finally felt loved, even though they had an argument an hour prior.
She sobbed into his shoulder for a while, as Chase slowly rubbed her back, calming her down in meantime. He never saw Sweetie cry, and now, he felt that she was broken down by his words. He placed his head on hers, which calmed her down.
"Your fur is really cozy." Chase suddenly heard under his chin. He smiled as he felt Sweetie slightly move her head. "And I didn't know you can give hugs this good."
"Yeah, me neither." Chase giggled. They stayed like that for some time, Sweetie basically laying on his chest and Chase rubbing her back. Despite the rivalry, everyone that saw them must've thought something romantic was between them.
