A small nod.
Sweetie was immediately speechless.
"A-Are you j-joking?" She said, between sobs.
"I'm sorry Sweetie," Marshall said to the now-crying terrier.
What do I do? She thought. No wonder Chase was the dad, he was her only one. But what would he say? Will he break up with her? Will he even talk to her?
"But you also have the flu. I pumped you up with vitamins but I force you to stay even from walking. You. Need. To. Rest." He articulated, to which she nodded. "Sorry. I know that the only thing you are thinking about is being pregnant."
"I didn't think...I didn't know that I could even...I am not that old, am I?" "You are at the age that some already go through it a third time," Marshall replied, already on the route out.
"Um...could you...call Chase in?" Sweetie said, scared of what will he do. Marshall nodded and left the room. Immediately after him leaving, Chase came in.
"So?" "Flu," Sweetie said. Chase sighed in relief and went over to her.
"I thought something happened. But flu...well, it isn't the best, but it's still better than...I don't know, broken bones or pregnancy."
Yeah, well... She just looked at him.
Chase saw the tears in her eyes and somehow immediately understood what had happened.
"A-Are y-you..." Chase stuttered out, to which she just nodded and looked away. There was silence as Chase tried to process what she said.
"Are you mad?" Sweetie said, still not making eye contact.
"I'm just...confused," Chase said. "We did it once...and it happened."
"Yeah," Sweetie said. Chase heard the sadness in her voice, which made him think.
"You are scared, right?" "Of course I am. I got pregnant with you, we didn't even plan to, and...and...and" Sweetie started hyperventilating and Chase brought her into a hug. She cried into his chest while Chase tried to hold his tears in.
"Shhh, it's okay." He tried to calm her. "Nothing bad happened. We will just have a pup."
"Y-You w-want t-to?" "Of course only if you want to. We still need to learn a few things about it, but I am confident we can do it." Chase said, keeping a smile, that he hoped would cheer her up.
Sweetie was still sobbing into his chest, which Chase understood. It was going to be hard for her if she decides to keep the pup. But in that place, Chase swore he would accept her decision either way.
Moments later her sobbing stopped, being replaced by almost silent snoring. Chase carefully laid her back down and covered her with the blanket. After making sure she would be sleeping okay, he smiled.
Huh, I'm gonna be a dad. He thought to himself and walked out of the room, and towards the entrance of the lookout. He just wanted to take a breath of fresh air.
As he was sitting there, someone sat beside him. Turning right, he saw the only pup that he trusted, apart from Sweetie.
"Hey, buddy," Marshall said to Chase.
"Hi, Marsh." "You okay?" He asked the german shepherd.
"Yeah, just..." Chase sighed. "Is this how you felt?"
"When Everest was pregnant? Oh boy, that was something." Marshall chuckled. "I couldn't believe it at first, but I was ready to support Everest on any decision she made. Luckily, she decided to keep her, and now I have a daughter."
