Lux's POV

"What do you mean I'm getting moved again?" I tell my middle aged social worker.

"Your foster family just can't afford to keep you, I'm sorry" she says sincerely but I know that she isn't.

"I thought things were going well with that family" I reply dumbfounded.

"It's not your fault, they just already have too many kids, but don't worry I've already found you a new home" she assures me while looking through her files.

"Is it a new foster home? Am I getting adopted?" I say with hope in my voice.

"Neither. You'll be sent to an orphanage near California." She says all too calm about this horrible situation.

"What! No! You can't send me to another orphanage! I've already been to 5 different foster homes and 2 orphanages." I can feel the heat rushing to my face. She can't just keep moving me around like this. I've already been moved 7 times in 5 years, make that 8 now.

"I can't do anything Lux. You know that if I could I would."

"Don't I have any family that I can live with?" I already know the answer but it won't hurt to ask again.

"Lux how many times do I have to say this. I have looked everywhere for your family, but you don't have any. I promise I'll find you a home."

Empty promises. That's all she gives me. She's been trying to get me into a home for 5 years. No one wants a teenager, everyone always want to adopt a baby.

"Where will I be sent?" I say in defeat

"Sunshine Orphanage in Southern California"

"Oh boy! Can't wait!" I say with my voice filled with sarcasm.

-----------------

Later that day I'm in my foster families home starting to pack.

I don't have much just some clothes, my childhood stuffed elephant Ellie very creative I know! I'm almost finished except for one thing my mothers neckla-

Wait where is it! My eyes widen in panic and my breathing starts to quicken.

My eyes scan the room in search for it. I see the sunlight hit something shiny in the corner of the room. I leap for the source to find it to be my mothers necklace, I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.

Thank goodness! I would have broke down if I had lost that. It's all I have left of my mom

I hear a faint knock on the door and turn and respond "Come in."

"Hey are you ready to go Lux?" My foster dad asks, ex foster dad now.

"Yup." I say popping the p.

"I'm sorry we couldn't keep you, it was a real pleasure."

"Oh please save the apology speech for someone who cares" I say edgily.

"Okay then we should get on our way California is a long drive."

"Fine lets get this over with" I say with a sigh.

This is going to be hell.
