Lux's POV
As Jen and I are going down the busy streets of California, I look outside my window and see the horizon of the city.
It's gorgeous. I've been moved around to so many places that I forget to just stop and enjoy the view.
I mean I've never been out of the United States, but I've moved to so many different cities it almost seems pointless to count all of them. This wasn't only because of being a orphan.
My parents loved to move. They were always looking for a new place to call home. Always looking for a new adventure. In many ways I'm like my parents, especially this one.
I loved adventure and traveling.
It was always more fun with them. The jokes, the truck stops, the ordering pizza and eating on the floor of every new house we owned.
Now jokes just remind me of my dad.
*Flashback*
"Hey kiddo, don't worry about it your going to do just fine!" My dad encourages me.
"But what if I do terrible and I let all my soccer teammates down." I say looking down on the floor of our new white Honda civic.
"You won't I promise! how about I tell you a joke to ease your mind?"
"I hardly think a joke can make me less nervous!" I say as I unbuckle my seat belt.
"Oh c'mon just one!" He pleads.
"Okay dad, but just one!" I say to him.
"Okay why did the soccer ball prank everybody?" He asks as he holds in the answer.
I shrug with a smile on my face in response not knowing what the answer is.
"Because he got a kick out of it!" He finished and starts to laugh uncontrollably.
This causes me to start laughing out of control.
I reach over to my dads seat and hug him so tight he groans in response.
"What was that for buddy?" He says while kissing the top of my head
"For making me feel better!" I thank him with an enormous smile on my face.
*End of flashback*
When I finish the flashback I'm on the verge if tears, but luckily hold it in. Even after the countless nights of crying myself to sleep, I still cry at the thought of my parents.
Road trips and truck stops just remind me of my mom.
*Flashback*
"Okay Lux we have a 2 hours left of driving until we are in Sacramento and meet up with your father!" She informs me.
"Then why are we stopped at a gas station if we only have 2 hours left?" I asked confused.
"Well, I have been driving for a long 7 hours and I need a wake up call. So I was thinking that we go into the convenience store and grab as much candy as we want, and eat it all before we get to daddy!" She says telling my the game plan.
"Really? That sounds awesome mom!" I say my voice full of excitement.
*End of flashback*
I start tearing up at the thought of my parents. I try to quickly wipe my tears before Jen sees me.
"Hey you okay?" Jen asks worried.
"Oh yeah, I just got something in my eye!" I say trying to play it off, luckily it works and she drops the subject.
"Anyways, so you and Jared really hit it of-" She starts to say before I interrupt her.
"Oh nothing at all is happening between Jared and I!" I rapidly say completely nervous. I can feel heat rising to my face causing me to blush.
"I was going to say you two really got along well, but obviously I missed something here!" She says as she takes short glances at me.
"Nothing whatsoever Jen!" I say but I realize that I am terrible at hiding things like this.
"Oh my gosh! Lux Valentine you like Jared!" She says while playfully pushing me.
"I do not!" I whine as I bury my head in my hands in embarrassment.
"You totally do! Okay you have to tell me everything now!"
"Fine!" I say in defeat. I lift my head to face her and being to talk about Jared.
"Jared is really sweet! I can talk so easily to him. I mean he plays guitar did you know that he play guitar?" I say all at once.
"That is so adorable! Jared is the sweetest kid I have ever met and I've known him for almost 5 years now!"
"Do you like him at all?" She ask as she turns into the Arden Fair Mall.
"Maybe? Maybe I do lik-"
