Adoption?

Lux's POV

"It's very nice to meat you Lux!" I hear her say.

"So you're planning on adopting?" I ask. Why did I just ask that? Of course she's adopting she's at a orphanage.

"Yeah I am! Well that's the plan at least." She says.

Why is she only talking to me? I think to myself.

"So Lux tell me about yourself?" She asks curiously.

"Why don't I show you my bedroom, I'd rather not have a conversation in the middle of the main entrance." I offer.

"That'd be great!" She says with a smile.

I smile back at her and awkwardly turn around and lead her to room 4b, my room for now.

"So what do you want to know about me?" I ask not knowing what tell her about myself. To be honest I'm pretty boring.

"Everything! Favourite food, hobbies, sports, movies, tv shows. Everything there is to know about Lux Valentine." She states as she goes to sit on the edge of my bed.

Before I answer I go to my desk and pull the cheap ikea chair out and turn it to face Jennifer.

"Well I really like pizza, but then who doesn't! I like to draw in my free time but I'm not really good. I really like Florence and the Machine! There my favourite band!" I say answering some of her questions.

"No way! Florence and the Machine are my favourite too!" She says.

"No you're lying!" I accuse as a smile grows on my face.

"No joke! Just last month I saw them live at Coachella!" She says as her smile almost grows as big as mine.

"Really? I've always wanted to them live!" I tell her.

"Well maybe once I adopt you I could take you to a concert." She offers.

My eyebrows raise in disbelief and my eyes widen in shock.

"Wait, did you just say adopt?" I ask not believing what my ears just heard.

"Yeah of course I want to adopt you. From the moment I walked in and saw you I knew that you were the one that I was going to adopt!" She says genuinely.

"Um can I have some time to think about it?" I ask timidly.

"Of course you can. I don't want to rush you in making a life altering decision." She pauses.

"I'll be with Ms. Doris if you make up your mind." She says as she exits my bedroom.

"Thank you." I tell her as she leaves.

Okay Lux. I think to myself.

Is this what you want?

Are you just replacing Mom with Jennifer? Of course I want to be adopted but I feel like I'm not good enough to be her daughter.

I sigh heavily as my mind races to a million thoughts.

Jennifer's POV

As I leave Lux's room to give her time to think I bump into Ms. Doris who had been hovering in the hall the whole time.

"I've think I've already found a match!" I tell Ms. Doris 100 percent sure of my decisions.

"Is it Lux?" She asks me skeptically.

I nod

"Are you sure about that?" She asks just as skeptical.

"Yes I'm sure." I say pointedly.

"All I'm saying is that there are many other kids here that are younger than Lux and would a better match for you." She says trying to convince me.

"No there probably isn't. I've already decided about th-" I'm interrupted by Lux walking towards us.

"Yes." She says to both Ms. Doris and I.

"Yes what Lux?" Ms. Doris asks just as confused as I was.

"Yes I want to be adopted by
Ms. Morrison." She says with the biggest smile on her face.

As she says this I can feel my grin matching hers.
