song: I aint worried, one republic

To be one million percent I haven't really been able to stop thinking about my first real day here. don't get me wrong spending the past two days with Chloe and some of her girl friends was great and all but I feel like I am a little too 'midwest' for them. Lily Pulitzer and vineyard vines were never either of my things. But that first night - boating and boardwalk that was amazing not to mention the company I had with me was nice to look at and fun to talk to. Chloe let me know the triplets are her main friend group she only hangouts with those girls every once in a while she says "they're hard to please and a lot to handle". I do agree with her but id never tell her that keeping her happy is my top priority. Our lifeguarding jobs were supposed to start today but something happened with a chlorine shipment so it got pushed back two more weeks - im not going to complain about that.

"Anna im giving the boys your number, cool?" Chloe glanced over to me from her hammock.

"All of them? Why do I need Chris' number?" I rolled my eyes jokingly. I liked teasing Chloe about this little thing they have going on they get giddy around each other like little kids and it's hard not to pick a little fun.

"Be quiet. Matt asked for your number so I figured he was giving it to his brothers." I nodded silently while the wheels in my head started to turn. I was surprised he had the balls to ask for my number but slightly agreed with Chloe's assumption. I mean him and I had only talked for a few hours how in the hell would he know if he even liked me as a friend.

"Okay babe snap out of your deep thought. They asked if we wanna go down to the beach and play volleyball with them. Soooo what do you think Miss. Athletic?" I jumped up in excitement and ran inside to get ready while Chloe followed. She already knew what my response was by my reaction. I am extremely competitive and everyone closest to me knows it. I grew up playing lacrosse, running track, and even did dance for awhile (dance was a dark time). As i looked through all of my luggage trying to find the perfect outfit so that sand doesn't get suck in my ass crack I became overwhelmed thinking about who would be there and if Matt was the one who asked for my number, maybe he wanted it for another reason. Also after following all of their socials I realized it was actually the triplets that were famous and not just Chris. Even though part of me thought Matt was pretty an even bigger part of me feared ever being posted on his social media, what would all of his fans say?

-

"Who the fuck is ready to lose?" Chris yelled from across the sand volleyball court.

"I don't know who you're talking to but it sure as hell isn't me - I don't lose." I said proudly. We were on teams of three. Chris, Chloe, and Matt versus Me, Nick, and Alahna. Alahna was a friend of both the triplets and Chloe and was the first girl that I actually liked from here other than Chloe which was a nice change of pace. Matt and I were face to face as were Chloe and Chris. Chris and I were the designated setters for the group.

"Okay Anna well I will literally cry if this gets too sweaty or athletic for me. There's a reason why I have quit all the sports I played. Just a heads up." Nick looked at me sucking in a breath dramatically. Alahna pushed Nick to try and get him prepared for the game to start. After Chris set it up it went towards Nick and he just backed up and let the ball smack the sand.

"Ummm Nick ya know you're supposed to actually hit it back over right?" I asked him earning a laugh from everyone else. He rolled his eyes while complaining about the sand coming in his eyes.

"Oh hell yes we got this in the bag, Anna you're losing today sorryyy." Matt smirked at me while high fiving both Chloe and Chris while they giggled. For the remainder of the game I played the entire court while Alahna and Nick trash talked the others. It ended up being 21-18, I won...I mean we won I was just the MVP. We all settled back down on to the sand to talk after we had been completely tired out.

"Anna wanna see something cool?" matt glanced over to me gesturing to the beach beside us.

"Yeah sure why not?" I smiled skipping over to him still sweating from the game a little. He walked us over to the shore and started showing me these little sand crabs.

"Okay so basically you'll see a tiny little earthquake on the shore if you dig into it you'll find crabs." He smiled up at me from his squatting position. "Give me your hand so I can help you grab one." Matt pushed my hand into the wet sand until I felt something almost like a rock then squeezed my hand together signaling me to grab. "Once you pull it out you'll see it kinda like the size of your thumb. Aren't they cute?" The way he talked about it with child like joy made me even more entertained by these little creatures. 'not as cute as you right now' I thought to myself.

"Yeah they're pretty cute Matt why do you know all of this stuff though?"

"When we were all younger my mom always told me and my brothers never to be like sand crabs. Yeah they're cute and pretty cool but they can only move backwards, not to the side or forward. She would say that living in the moment and looking forward to the good is more important than moving backwards in life. They're kind of like the villain to my mom being a super hero if you think about it." After I had watched a few of their YouTube videos I noticed that Matt was always the most quiet so I was shocked that he was telling me so much and talking in general but I didn't mind at all.

"Now that's cuter."

"What's cuter?" Matt questioned.

"The fact that you think of your mom as a superhero." He smiled back at me before nudging me to go back towards the group and eventually head home.
