ANNA'S POV:

In typical Chloe fashion we didn't make it out of her house til midnight - Vin and I didn't mind at all it gave us a chance to catch up. He was my best friend my senior year of high school and then he went to the University of Portland which was super close to Chlo and I's school so we would always visit each other and it was just nice to have a piece of home so close to me. Of course Vinnie wanted to drive so poor me let Chloe have the passenger seat while I was crammed into the baby sized backseat. As he pulled up to the Sturniolo's I could hear soft music and smell the fire in the air. There were definitely quite a few more cars than we had all typically talked about. But we walked in after Vinnie had helped me get out of his death trap of a car, Chloe already ran in ahead of us trying to get a shot and Chris before it gets even later. I walked in to the back yard through the back gate with Vinnie's arm around my shoulders. This wasn't weird for us even though we have only been friends for a couple years we both just agreed being physically affectionate should be more normal in male/female friendships and didn't have to have an underlying meaning. But based off of the few looks we got according to other people it meant something pretty big. Chloe ran up to Vin and I with Chris trailing behind her. When we finally met eyes with her I could see two shots in her hand and the smell of v0dka on her breath.

"I have two things to say: you guys need to take these asap and Vinnie meet Chris, Chris meet Vinnie." The boys dapped each other up and seconds later Vin and I cheersed and threw the shots back. Both him and I made the worst faces possible then decided to go and talk to more people.

"OHH YAY nick this is Vinnie a friend from my hometown!" I said gesturing.

"Oh shit Anna okay he's hot. Heyyyy Vinnie!" nick said clearly feeling the effects of alcohol

"Nick no - there is no need to inflate his ego anymore."

"No no Anna but you're wrong." Nick looked around. "ALAHNA. this is what I have been saying. where the men located???" he pointed from Alahna to Vinnie as I just laughed.

"Hey Vin I am gonna go get us a drink do you think you'll be okay with these two they seem pretty chatty right now?" I asked.

"Yeah ill be fine nana." God I hated that nickname. I walked into the boys house away from the bonfire and saw Matt leaning against the counter scrolling on his phone.

"Hey Matthew." I smiled touching his arm not long before grabbing two cups and filling them up with a lethal concoction.

"Hey Anna. How's vin?" He said putting air quotes around the word Vin.

"Um yeah he's good. Are you good though?"

"Just peachy." I didn't know what had gotten into him but could see the lack of sobriety in his eyes and decided to fill a third cup with water.

"You wanna come sit at the fire with me?" I questioned him hoping the fresh air and water would make him feel better and maybe less bitter.

"Yeah fine." He said with a pout stepping in front of me. We walked down their back deck over to the chairs and I sat between Vin and Matt. I could see Chloe and Chris across the fire talking quietly holding hands and smiled at them both.

"Stop staring dude you're gonna freak them out." Vinnie nudged me.

"Whatever they're the two cutest people here right now."

"Not me?" Vinnie said sarcastically.

"Right cause your ego isn't big enough already?" Matt scoffed sitting next to me at my question. Vinnie picked up on that and made a weird face. I shrugged not knowing what Matt's deal was.

"Anywaysss thanks for the drink nana." Vin smiled at me as I cringed.

"Pause what's the deal with the name nana??" Alahna questioned while Nick looked eagerly over her shoulder.

"It's stupid really. Anna's brother couldn't pronounce her name when they were growing up so he called her nana and it just sort of stuck and then when her mom met me she said that I was her other brother so I was rewarded nickname privileges."

"Oh I thought you guys had pet names for each other." Matt said quiet enough for only me to hear. Vin, Alahna, and Nick talked more and I decided to pull Matt back inside. I grabbed his hand and drug him upstairs while Vinnie gave me the eyes as if he anticipated something else was going to happen so I shook my head.

"Okay matt seriously what's up?"

"Nothing I don't know what your deal is."

"No the little comment and your scoff doesn't exactly tell me that everything is just 'peachy' now does it?" He rolled his eyes and pulled me further upstairs to what im assuming is his room.

"I don't want other people hearing me and for the record im sober enough to remember everything I say up here. So im just gonna say it. I don't know what it is or why but I don't like Vinnie. Well, more specifically I don't like seeing the two of you together. He's fucking twirling you around and he's just all over you touching you every five fucking seconds and it's bullshit." I sat there while Matt caught his breath trying to figure out how to respond.

"Okay well im not going to apologize because in reality that's just how him and I are with each other. Plus, I don't know why you'd be upset about any of that. But in all honesty him and I are nothing more than friends - I mean did you even hear him? He's like my brother. Im talking about the fact that he asks me for advice and will make fun of me and literally ditches me for random hookups. He's just a friend and that's all he ever will be. So even though I won't apologize for how I act with him I will say sorry if it made you uncomfortable." I sighed sitting down on his bed next to him putting my head in my hands in defeat.

"Anna im sorry for getting upset especially cause I didn't really have the right to. For some reason its just not nice to see. You're beautiful so I guess I just assumed he looks at you the way that I do." My jaw dropped but with the hair in front of my face he couldn't tell. I gathered my composure and placed my hand on top of his.

"Matt you don't have to apologize for having feelings and expressing them. I mean who knows if I was in your shoes maybe I would've done the same thing. But you're beautiful too -" We made eye contact and out of panic. "so stop being sad." I said with a sarcastic smirk. trying to make light of the clear tension in the air which luckily he chuckled at. I grabbed his hand fully this time leading him out of the room.

"Now let's go rejoin the group so they don't worry about us."
