He was already regretting agreeing to go to the party just by the mere mention of Hwang Hyunjin's name. The only thing keeping him from backing out was the promise of a sleepover before and after the party.

When Felix was in ninth grade his parents split and he was forced to switch high schools when he and his mom moved out. He didn't care or protest much during the relocation, seeing as he didn't have many friends there, to begin with, and his father was undoubtedly a piece of shit.

Felix remembered Hyunjin from his freshman year— he's almost impossible to forget. Felix wasn't much of a talker which meant he usually opted to observing his classmates.

If his memory served him right, Hyunjin was like a ball of negative attributes. He was rude and arrogant. Hyunjin did not accept anything less than what he wanted, he never let his "friends" contribute to anything but that's what happens when you become a brats' lackey.

He was dangerous. Always threatening others and if you ask the people who were left bleeding on the ground and checked his student records— he never bluffed.

Felix had one specific encounter with Hyunjin that really instilled in him the adamant decision to never speak to him again. They had English together during freshman year and were paired up for a project that, unfortunately for Felix, ended up requiring them to meet outside of school to finish by the due date.

He was already bitter about being paired up with a pompous kid-bashing brat that probably didn't even care about his grades. To his surprise, the very next day, Hyunjin invited him to his house to work on their project.

Hyunjin led Felix through a glass sliding door tucked away in the back of the house. Immediately Felix eyed the fluorescent blue pool that was at least eight feet deep. Lounge chairs were sporadically set up around the perimeter of the pool; it looked like a poor attempt to reposition all the chairs after a big get-together. Felix was mesmerized. He had already guessed Hyunjin was rich but Felix had never seen a house this big.

Felix was beckoned over to a circular white table that was a good six feet away from the pool's edge. Even though they weren't friends by any means of the word, Felix had to admit he wasn't bad to work with. Hyunjin didn't ever let them lapse into an awkward silence, muttering critiques and ideas for their essay when the threat of an uncomfortable silence loomed too close.
