Nancy, Jonathan, Ms. Byers, and Hopper had all left the school. The only ones left in the gymnasium with me were Dustin, Lucas, Mike, and El. Mike, Lucas, and Dustin were arguing about what we should do now that we were left unsupervised. I sat on the bleachers with El, comforting her and helping her recharge. All of a sudden, I saw Dustin start to leave.
"Dustin, where are you going?" I called.
"I'm going to get some chocolate pudding! Lunch lady Phyllis hordes that shit, want in?" Dustin asked. I nodded and hopped off of the bleachers to go with Dustin and Lucas.
"I'll stay here with El!" Mike shouted. I gave him a thumbs up and jogged to catch up with Dustin and Lucas. We got into the kitchen and dug through the cabinets. Dustin and I were on one end of the room while Lucas was on the other. I found a cabinet that was low to the ground and big enough to climb inside. I shoved my head in and dug through the items, no pudding. As I backed out I loudly bumped my head against the top of the cabinet.
"Shit!" I muttered. Dustin dashed over to my side.
"You okay?" He asked, his voice laced with concern.
"Yeah," I touched the spot where my head came into contact with the cabinet, it hurt but there was no blood, "I'm good." I looked up to see that Dustin and I were sitting extremely close together. The energy of the room shifted as blush crept up on my cheeks. Dustin smiled goofily and got me to chuckle.
"What's so funny?" He questioned.
"Nothing..." I responded, "You're just so amazing, Dustin Henderson." His face turned bright red as he smiled.
"I think you're pretty amazing too, Y/n Harrington," Dustin replied. We made eye contact for a moment before we both leaned in. I was finally about to kiss Dustin Henderson, the boy who made me feel safer than anyone else in the world.
"GUYS I FOUND THE CHOCOLATE PUDDING!" Lucas yelled. We quickly pulled away from each other, damn it Lucas! I guess I wasn't going to kiss him after all. We got up off the ground and helped Lucas grab the pudding. We exited the kitchen and dumped a pile of pudding on a cafeteria table that El and Mike had moved to. I cracked open a pudding cup and just dumped the whole thing in my mouth.
"Gross!" Lucas exclaimed.
"Oh yeah, Mr. I-Do-Spit-Handshakes? This is gross?" I gestured towards my empty pudding cup and then threw it in his face. Dustin laughed and Mike came running toward us at full speed.
"Mike you just missed it, Y/n-"
"Guys, guys! They found us!" Mike shouted. We all shot up from our seats and ran. I grabbed a pudding cup and stashed it in my pocket, you never know when a spare pudding cup is going to come in handy. We turned a corner and came face to face with an agent.
"Got 'em!" The agent yelled. We all turned around and ran in the opposite direction. A group of agents got us cornered, I pulled my swiss army knife out of my pocket and held it out. It was no match for the guns that the agents had, but it made me feel more in control. El stared down one of the agents, then suddenly, blood started seeping out of all of the agents' eyes and noses. Then, they collapsed, along with El.
"El wake up!" Mike shouted.
"Mike, she's just drained!" I reassured him.
"No, no, no this is different! She's barely breathing! El!" He yelled.
"We gotta go!" Lucas told Mike. An intimidating doctor came around the corner and glared at us.
"Step away from the child!" He ordered.
