Chapter 12; Bats of the bands

Title is a reference to the term "Battle of the bands.", I was originally gonna make it "Battle of the Bats" but I liked this one better

Eddie POV

I winked over at Steve, and smiled. I couldn't wait for that damn concert. But now, I had the most metal one in history infront of me. The song  I had picked out was a recent song that came out from Metallica. "Master of Puppets." Even the name got me excited.

Dustin set up the speakers, that was gonna blast all the way to the Creel house. We had to wait for the signal on the walkie to start, so in the meantime we had nothing to do except for prepare. I leaned back, dangling my legs off the top of the trailer. My mind trailed back to Chrissy, and all the other victims this asshole had taken. They didn't deserve any of it.

I could see Dustin was struggling with the extension cord, so I went over to help him.

Steve POV

Great, Robin was getting us lost. Nancy and I groaned as Robin ran off, trying to find an exit. "Imagine if we actually just have the entirety of Hawkins fall because we lost our way in the woods." I tried to lighten up the mood, but Nancy seemed serious. "How are you and Jonathan doing?" I asked her. She seemed to tense up. "You tensed up, I noticed it, so spill."
"It's just — he's been distant. Everything he so confusing right now with him and it's driving me insane. He was supposed to come here for the break, but he didn't — and he said he thought I was coming there apparently, I THINK, because his house phone apparently self destructed because he hasn't been messaging me what do ever — so if the mention of his name causes me to tense up — that's why." She talked quick and fast. "You remind me of Robin when she talked about how much she loved girls." I laughed. "Robin is a little messed up right now, I heard she told you about Vickie." Nancy nodded. "She needs someone to cheer her up, and of course I'll be there for her, but ones not enough." I said to Nancy. "Since both of your supposed boyfriends, girlfriends or crushes are being asswipes, team up and become the unstoppable girl duo."

Nancy actually seemed to care about what I said, she nodded and gave me a smile. "Robin is nice, I think I'd actually like that." She replied. Just then, Robin came back, showing us that she had finally found where we needed to go, the Creel house.

We all ran and followed her as we saw the light shining from the spot where Erica was assigned to be. We ran over and knew we needed to initiate phase two. We have the signal, and started to run into the house. I went in first. "You have got to be shitting me." I groaned.

The entire ground and walls were covered in vines, and if we stepped on a single one of them we'd be the new meals for the demo dogs, demogorgans, mind flayer, and what ever else this place has to offer. I sighed and started to do a sort of parkour over the floor towards the stairs. I could see through the window the bats started to fly towards us. "Holy shit we forgot to wait for the bats —" I started to freak out, and almost stepped on a vine, before I heard the sound of music playing in the background. Eddie.

Eddie POV

Everything was just about ready, we got the signal. Dustin motioned for me to start, I took a deep breath. I slammed my finger down on my guitar, and started to play the song. Dustin cranked up the sound of the speakers and I'm surprised our eardrums stayed in tact.

It felt exhilarating to play the song, I heard worked my ass off learning it and it was all worth it, mg fingers glided across the strings as each one made noise, the noise that was going to save the asses of everyone, even the shithole of Hawkins.

I looked over at Dustin while playing, his eyes were lightening up at the concert I was playing, I got him to listen to Metallica, and I even showed him this song when it just released, I heard it for the first time when he was sitting right next to me. He was jumping up and down, but still keeping an eye out for those damned bats. After about a minute or two had gone by, I saw the in the distance. "T MINUS 30" Dustin screamed, I could barely hear him over the sound of the music. The damn awesome as shit music

I continued to play my heart out, not giving a damn about anything else, I played away all the pent up anxiety over being a wanted man for a crime I didn't do, I played away all the fear I felt when Chrissy got taken, when that poor little kid got taken, when Steve almost got taken. Everything was being extinguished like a flame, being turned into nothing.

"T MINUS 10!!" Dustin yelled louder, the song was about over, and the bats were getting closer. I put my entire being into those last couple seconds. "You better have weird this Harrington." I mumbled under the music.
"T MINUS 5!" Dustin screamed once more, I played the last final notes as I prepared myself to make a run for it. I played the last note, and immediately jumped off the roof and ran for the door. I grabbed Dustin and ran into the house, I slammed the door shut and took a second to calm down. I looked over at Henderson as we started screaming and jumping around.

But it wasn't over, I could hear that our defenses weren't going to last long. I ushered Dustin to quickly climb up the rope, and he did. I looked over at the door, that was slowly being chipped away at. I let go of the rope, as I heard Dustin start to scream. "EDDIE HURRY UP! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!"

I didn't really know what I was doing. Thoughts went through my mind, thoughts of all the times I ran away, doing nothing. Hiding from everything going on around me.

Maybe I was high

Maybe something changed in me

But before I knew it I had cut the rope, moved the mattress so Dustin couldn't follow me, and ran out the door, buying some time. I tried to tune out the screams and cries of Dustin as I ran. I quickly took one of the bikes that had been here from last time, and started to peddle as fast as my legs could take me

But it could only last me so long

One of the bats flung down and hit me off the bike, I continued to run, but I came to a dead end. The bats started to fly around me, hundreds of them, tons of them. They watched started to fly down at me, I was able to dodge them. I hit them with the make shift sword, and blocked them with the make shift shield.

But soon, I couldn't block them all. One of them had gotten around my neck and pulled me to the ground, I struggled and screamed, as I felt more grabbing my limbs.

Soon the next thing I felt was the bats digging away at my flesh.

I was going to die.

Steve POV

I gasped for air, the vines had got us, tightening around our necks, Robin and Nancy were kicking their legs, desperately trying to break themselves free. The vines then rapped around their legs, fully pinning them. I had already given up. Excepted the fact I was going to die

Maybe if I have up, these vines would focus on me, and Robin and Nancy could get out safely. Eddie could take care of the kids. Robin could have Nancy as a best friend.

I gave myself a mental slap, what on earth was I thinking, I gotta make it to that damned concert with Eddie, i couldn't die here. Those kids need me. I kept struggling, managing to give myself a couple gasps for air, the others were able to survive like I was. But we all knew this couldn't go on fore —

The vines immediately went off of us, what the hell happened??!! Robin, Nancy and I all have eachother a look of confusion, but we needed to get our job done. We ran upstairs, and sure enough, we saw Vecna. Body defenseless. We wasted no time and started to throw the bottles that ignited. The bitch burst into flames, as Nancy started to shoot

"We were going to do this

We were going to be able to kill him.

We were going to go home!"

But I couldn't have been more wrong
