                                        •Lloyd•

The next day in the Emergency Room with Harumi was filled with trying to come up with different ways to entertain ourselves. It didn't help that she was not able to get out of bed. I discovered that she was very good at puzzles. I had stopped at a store to pick up some snacks and look for things to bring back to the room for her to do while she slept. I came across a puzzle that had a picture of the beach on it, and immediately knew that she would like it.

I bought it, and brought it back to the Emergency Room, finding Harumi and Nya in the middle of braiding each others hair.

"Hey Lloyd!" Harumi says cheerfully as Nya finishes a French braid in her hair. "Where have you been?"

I smile, and pull the puzzle out of my bag. Her face lights up and she squeals.

"I love puzzles! Thank you Lloyd!" She says as I walk over to her to give her the puzzle, and she pulls me into a big hug.

"Anytime Rumi." I say smiling and blushing.

I place a hospital tray on her lap, and we open the box. At least five hundred pieces fall out.

"This is going to be so fun!" She says as she starts arranging the pieces.

I smile and laugh, walking over to the chair. "I'm glad you like it Rumi. I think I'll take a nap while you put it together." I say sitting down and leaning my head back.

"I'll help you Harumi! I love puzzles too!" Nya says starting to help arrange the pieces.

I smile and close my eyes. It makes me happy to see Nya and Harumi bonding. I drift off to sleep, but am soon awoken by Nya.

"Lloyd, wake up!" She whispers loudly from across the room.

My body jerks up, and I snap my eyes open. Sure enough, Harumi and Nya have put the entire puzzle together. I look at the clock. It had only been an hour.

"Wha- How?!" I stutter in disbelief. They both giggle, looking at the puzzle.

"I guess we're just that good." Harumi says as she winks in my direction. I laugh. It made me happy to see her happy.

The hours went by, some slower, and some faster than others. I spent the hours and days trying to help Harumi through this hard time in anyway that I could. Sometimes, it was just being there to hold her in my arms. Other times, it was being there for her to talk to.

The evenings were especially hard. Harumi's pain medicine would start to wear off, making it very hard for her to sleep. Tonight was one of those nights. We had been in the hospital for three days. We were all restless, especially Harumi.

The nurse knocks on the door.

"Come in." Nya says setting her phone down as the nurse walks in to give Harumi more pain medicine.

I look up from my phone, and Harumi is still lying in the hospital bed next to me, with a pillow over her head, holding my hand tightly. I've noticed the past few days that she holds my hand tighter, depending on how much pain she is experiencing. I can definitely tell that she is hurting a lot right now.

The nurse starts to insert more medicine into her IV, as I gently pull the pillow off of her head, and placing it on my lap. I carefully move her head and upper body, placing her on the pillow so she will be more comfortable while she waits for the pain medicine to start working.

The nurse smiles at us, and I smile back as she leaves the room quietly.

Harumi shifts her head up to look at me.
