Bad for You (Billy x OC)

What Was That?

After laying with Billy a while longer I start to sit up, "I hate it, but I have to go home." I say, unable to hide the disappointment in my voice, he groans. "Lets get dinner tonight, or see a movie, whatever you want to do," I say. He looks over at me, "I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to tell you that." I giggle. "Well I said it for you," we both get dressed and I'm about to leave when Billy grabs his keys. "No you're supposed to watch Max, just come pick me up when your parents get home." He nods, knowing he can't leave max alone. He walks me to the door and gives me a kiss before I start walking back home.

When I get home I shower and change, still smiling. I hear a knock at the door. Did Billy's parents come back already? I rush to the door and open it to see Nancy and Jonathan. "Hey, you guys?" I say confused. "Can we come in?" Jonathan blurts out. I open the door and let them in. "Where have you guys been?" I ask them, ready to hear why they've been out of school. "It's a long story, look have you seen my mom?" Jonathan asks, and Nancy adds, "Or my brother?" "Your mom? What do you mean?" I ask confused, "I think I saw Dustin driving around with Steve but-"

RIINGGG

"One second," I tell them to hold on and I answer the phone. "Hey its Billy," I smile. "Hey, did you decide what we're doing tonight?" I ask excitedly. "I can't." He says curtly. My smile fades as I let out a sound resembling the word 'oh' "It's not what you think, I wan't to see you, but Max snuck out and my dad..." I hear his voice shake and trail off before he continues again, "I've got to go find her so I can't see you tonight." Before I can say anything he hangs up. I turn around to see Nancy and Jonathan staring at me. "Do you know where your brother and his friends are?" I ask and they both look back at me, "no?"  I grab my keys, "Who's driving?" I ask. Their eyes widen and they try to come up with a reason to keep me home, "I have to help find Max and she's probably with them. We can find them faster if you let me come." They look at each other, and without any reason to argue they reluctently agree. We head outside. Nancy and Jonathan get into his car and I follow closely behind. I know Max isn't my responsibility but I know what Billys dad will do if she isn't home soon.

We headed to Jonathan's house but no one was home. When Jonathan realized someone else had been there, he and Nancy decided we needed to leave. "Wait where are we going?" I asked. "Its a long story, you should probably go home." Nancy says. The frustration of the night finally builds up and I shout, "No. You two have been hiding something. Things were weird with you two when Barb went missing, you guys are always sharing weird looks when people talk about what happened last year. We are friends, and friends dont hide things from eachother. If you don't want to tell me now, fine lets talk later. But you're looking for the kids, and like I said before, Billy's sister is probably with them, so I'm coming with you." When the words stop spilling from me, Jonathan and Nancy are too stunned to say anything but can tell that arguing with me about it is a waste of time. "Hawkins Lab. We need to get there now." Jonathan says, Nancy snaps her head at him and he just shrugs and walks out. She looks back at me and I shrug too. "Let's go then, I'll ask about it on the way."

On the drive over, Jonathan explains that Will has appointments at the Lab and thats why we're headed over there. When we get there all the lights are out. "Are you sure anyone's home?" I ask. Jonathan gets out and starts hitting buttons in the booth. Nancy and I get out of the car and look around until we see a light coming towards us. Jonathan rushes in to join us as the light gets closer until... "Steve?" we all say in unison. We see Steve with Dustin, Lucas and.. Max! "Nancy?" "Jonathan?" Steve and Dustin let out in a confused tone as they come closer, "Julie?" Max asks, surprised to see me. "Yeah what are you doing out here?" I ask her, "I'm helping my friends," she responds. "Well we're looking for Mike and Will," Nancy adds. Dustin chimes in, "they wouldn't happen to be in there," gesturing towards the lab, "right?" as Nancy tells them we aren't sure we hear a screeching noise come from the lab and everyone looks in its direction. I jump back. "What the hell was that?" Everyone turns to me. "Guys?  Seriously what was that?"

Everyone ignores me and rushes to the booth trying to find a way to open the gate. After Dustin and Jonathan argue for a few minutes the gate starts to open, "I got it!" Dustin yells. "Okay will someone PLEASE tell me what's going on?" I ask again as Jonathan rushes to the car, "we have to go now." he says with a sense of urgency I've never heard from him. "I can't leave Max." I tell them, and look over to her. Now that I know where she is I can get her home but if we get separated now, who knows when we'll find her. "Just go, meet us back at your house." I say and glance at Steve, he nods agreeing with the plan.

I ride with Steve and the kids and they explain everything on the drive back to the Byers house. My head is spinning. There's no way. I look over at Steve, he nods his head, as if to say 'Yeah, believe it. Its all true.' I stare at the road for a second and then look at Max. You're staying with me until I can get you home. She rolls her eyes, "who cares." she says under her breath. I snap at her, "Your parents. Your brother-" "STEP-brother" she corrects me. "Yeah, your step brother." I continue. "And I can't leave it all up to Steve to get you home in one piece." I say, "Uh Hey!" Steve shouts, clearly offended. "Oh you know what I mean," I say to him and he huffs, "but you think I can keep them safe right?" He asks quietly, "Sure Steve." I say.
