Dinner with who?" Ally asked.
Leo was standing in the bathroom, combing through his hair with wet fingers.
"Evan, Nicola, and Benjamin."
Her stomach dropped.
"Not Amiri and Theo?"
Not Daniel?
"No, everyone else's busy."
She was leaning against the door frame, dressed in one of his t-shirts.
"Are you asking or demanding?" she said. "'We're going to dinner', doesn't sound too much of a question if you ask me."
He tore himself away from the mirror, grabbed her by the waist, and pulled her close.
"It wasn't."
She gave him a teasing smile.
"What if I have plans?"
He buried his hand in her hair.
"Cancel them."
She was still smiling when she raised her eyebrows in a subtle warning.
"What happened with not 'interfering in my life'? That's one of the rules."
He sighed and let go off of her hair.
"Please?"
She gently turned his face to hers.
"Please what?"
His hands around her waist tightened.
"Don't push it."
She leaned forward, as if to kiss him, but instead bit his lip.
"Please what?"
He kissed her, grabbed her face and turned it away from him, so that he could whisper in her ear.
"Please, Ally, will you come to dinner with me and my friends?"
She turned her head back to him.
"I would be delighted to." She smiled, a wicked glint in her eye. "Who's in control now?"
His eyes narrowed as he, with a swift movement, grabbed her by the throat, completely shutting off the air stream. They had a safe gesture. She would tap his arm twice if she wanted him to stop.
"As I said, don't push it."
He let her go. She gasped for air but quickly found her composure. He lifted her face up by placing a finger underneath her chin.
"You okay?"
She nodded.
"Ally..."
She stood on her tip toes, grabbed his face, and kissed him. He groaned.
"I know", she said, barely leaving his lips. "Answer you. Yes, I'm okay."
She kissed him again and pulled her hand back. She intended to place it somewhere else, but he caught it mid-air. He inspected it. The bruise from hitting Daniel had faded but wasn't entirely gone. She tried to kiss him again but he didn't let her.
"What happened to your hand?"
She stepped back.
"I hit it on the stone wall in Khai's garden. I slipped on the wet stone and tried to catch myself." She paused and searched his face for a reaction. "I didn't quite succeed."
She spoke rapidly and knew that she sounded nervous. Would he believe her? He had to. She didn't know what to do otherwise. She couldn't tell him the truth but lying again would only get her in more trouble.
