"She's watching self-defence videos", Benjamin said. "No doubt to fuck us up the next time we try to do something against her will."

Adryan chuckled on the other side of the line. Ally looked up from her phone and gave Benjamin a killing look.

"No, but she's safe", Benjamin continued. "You'll have to replace your cameras."

In less than a second Ally reacted by getting up from the sofa, crossing the room to the kitchen island, and snatching the phone from his hand.

"If you do that, the very short remaining time of our relationship will be an endless fight."

To Benjamin's surprise her face caught a bit of pain as she slowly raised her hand to cover her mouth, but let it fall again when she noticed his stare.

"Yes", she mumbled into the phone answering whatever question Adryan had just asked.

She left him by the counter, took his phone with her, and retreated to the bedroom, the door closing firmly behind her. He wondered what the pain was about, what had gone through her head.

She had dozed off shortly after their session and had drifted in and out of sleep for hours. It wasn't until the evening that she had been able to pull herself out from the never-ending need for rest and had joined him for pizza and a film. He wasn't surprised that she was tired. Of course he had heard from Adryan about the menacing call she had received during the Halloween party. He had known something was up and wasn't happy that his suspicion about her lying had been correct. His mouth turned into a thin line. If she was his sub, he could punish that bad habit out of her.

He sighed.

Their session had been a one-time thing. It had to be. He didn't even want to think about how many lines they had crossed by doing what they did together. She might not be cheating on Adryan with him, but he wasn't sure that Adryan would be too happy about Benjamin having her naked in front of him on the floor, kneeling.

Ally entered from the bedroom and handed him back his phone. The pain hadn't left her face and she was gnawing on her lip.

"You okay?" he said and accepted his mobile.

She nodded.

He decided not to push. "More pizza?"

Ally had fallen asleep during the movie and Benjamin had gently tucked her in and left her on the sofa. He had offered her his bed but she had promptly refused and now that she was asleep, he couldn't really wake her and demand her to switch places with him.

He soon fell asleep too but was abruptly awaken by dreams making him stir in the darkness. His cover was tangled up with his legs and his skin wore a thin layer of sticky sweat. The kind of sweat that was created out of nightmares. He couldn't remember it correctly, wasn't sure which out of the bad things had drawn him out of his imaginary world and thrown him out into the real one. He was grateful that it had though.

There were times when he couldn't remember what he had dreamt, but he always knew when it had been a nightmare wherever he could recall it or not. He could tell from the lingering feeling of terror. The horror always stayed for a while, making sure his body was filled of fear before letting him slip back into sleep.

He got out of bed and sneaked out to the kitchen. He poured himself a glass of water, barely opening the tab enough for a dribble. He didn't want the sound to wake Ally.

He watched her as he downed the glass. Her phone was pressed underneath her arm, lighting up every now and then from the touch of her skin. He sat the glass down and crossed the room. He carefully slid the phone out. The screen lit up one last time as he sat it down on the table. His eyes were drawn to the white light. An unread message was resting on the screen, waiting to be opened.
