Wilhelm and Simon were sat, both very bored, in Mr. Morris's class.

It was unusual for Simon not to be interested in the learning material, but it was a particularly dull lesson... or maybe he was just a little more focused on Wilhelm who was sitting next to him.

Wilhelm's long locks of blonde hair were falling in front of his face. His beautiful light brown eyes were unfocused, and he seemed to be in a different world.

Simon counted the couple of light freckles on the boys face. There were eight... or maybe nine? Perhaps ten...

"Simon?" Mr. Morris asked in an exasperated tone.

"Huh?" Simon's head shot up from the desk where he had been not so subtly staring at Wilhelm.

"Next time, Simon, pay attention instead of staring at your desk mate," Mr. Morris said in what could be perceived as a teasing voice.

The whole class immediately turned around in their seats to look at Simon and Wilhelm.

Simon flushed a deep red like a tomato.

Then Wilhelm looked up, seemingly snapping out of his dreamy state, to gaze straight into Simon's eyes.

Simon, although very embarrassed, met the boy's eyes with his own in unwavering intensity.

Mr. Morris broke the moment. He had a habit of doing that. "Alright, alright. Only joking. Now let's talk about the grammar rules for..."

...And the class droned on.

-

After Mr. Morris's grammar lecture, Simon and Wilhelm were walking through the hallways towards their next class. Together.

Wilhelm couldn't help but stare at the beautiful boy walking beside him.

"Now you're the one that's staring," Simon joked.

Wilhelm stopped abruptly. He didn't know what made him do it, but suddenly his arms were being thrown around Simon's slim body, engulfing the smaller boy in a tight embrace.

Simon let out a grunt of surprise, but put his arms around the blonde boy with only slight hesitation.

The hug was over just as quickly as it started.

Wilhelm pulled back from Simon, already regretting not being in his arms for any longer.

The hallway had grown quiet to stare at the pair.

It was much like the hug right before the start of Christmas break. But now, they had a small friendship, hovering in limbo and fear of f*cking it all up.

"Shows over!" Wilhelm shouted at the people watching them intently.

Nearly everyone flinched at these harsh words and went back to their daily business.

"F*cking idiots," Wilhelm muttered under his breath as he and Simon resumed walking, not really meaning for the curly haired boy to hear.

Simon nodded fervently. "Tell me about it."

The boys lapsed into momentary silence.

"What was that about?" Simon asked out of the blue.

"What?" said Wilhelm, faking being stupid.

"You know perfectly well what dumb*ss."

Wilhelm sighed and ran his left hand through his hair.

"I- I guess I just missed doing that," Wilhelm admitted softly.

Then Wilhelm began to bite his nails, a thing Simon knew he did only when he was anxious.

Simon grabbed Wilhelm's hand down from his mouth.

"It's okay, Wille," Simon said in a comforting tone.

Then Simon noticed that he was still holding Wilhelm's hand. But instead of dropping it, he intertwined their fingers and continued on the way to class.

Simon did this as a sort of test. Could Wilhelm even bear to be seen holding hands with Simon in public?

Short answer: yes, because Wilhelm didn't pull away and instead seemed to take pleasure in holding and carefully stroking Simon's hand.

The two ignored all the stares from fellow students as they finally sat down in their next class, hands still tightly clasped together in harmony.

Wilhelm didn't know what this meant for the pair. Simon was certainly still very angry with him, and Wilhelm remained firm in his decision to not come out to the public.

But for a moment, both boys could pretend that everything was okay. That they loved each other more than anything. That there was no sex scandal. That they were simply a couple out of a fairytale.

'Some fairytale,' Wilhelm thought to himself.

But it was their fairytale. So even if it was imperfect, in a way it WAS perfect. Because these boys felt something very special for one another... and that- that was not fake.
