Wilhelm woke up to short, puffy breaths being cast upon his face. His eyes shot open to see Kristina bending over him, too close for his comfort.

The queen had tears gracefully running down her face. Too graceful. Forced. Fake. When she saw Wilhelm awake, she let out a shaky sigh of relief.

"Oh Wilhelm, you're awake!"

"I'm awake, Mama," Wilhelm replied, completely forgetting about his internal promise to never consider Kristina his mother again.

"And thank goodness for that. If you had slept any longer you might've missed your press conference scheduled for this afternoon! Unfortunately, some nasty fellow photographed you lying near... near Erik. The media is having a field day. They will need your official statement about the matter."

"So that's why you wanted me to wake up!" Wilhelm said loudly in disbelief.

"Wilhelm. Keep. Your. Voice. Down," the queen hissed in a menacing tone.

"NO!" Wilhelm shouted. "I'M NOT GOING TO KEEP SILENT FOR YOU. YOU DISGUST ME. I AM NO LONGER YOUR SON."

These words shocked Kristina into a silence. No one had ever dared to speak to her in this way.

Wilhelm took the pause to glance around the room. He hadn't even yet realized that he was in a hospital. White walls and white furnishings brought together a look that was far from comforting.

Wilhelm was breathing heavily, worn out from all his shouting. But he couldn't bring himself to feel badly for his actions. Kristina was just a monster, cold-hearted and selfish, greedy and condescending.

Kristina slowly stood up from the black, not uncomfortable chair that had been neatly placed beside Wilhelm's hospital bed. She cast a scornful look at her son before gracefully gliding out of the room, not an ounce of remorse in her tiny, evil eyes.

Simon's phone pinged. He put down his video game controller to pick it up.

"Bro, you're losing us the game!" Ayub said in a mock angry tone.

"Hold on..." Simon said, unlocking his phone, knowing perfectly well a video game couldn't be put on pause.

Simon was greeted by thirty-five notifications from various news websites that he was subscribed to.

"CROWN PRINCE FOUND PASSED OUT IN FRONT OF HIS LATE BROTHER'S GRAVE!"

"CROWN PRINCE - DEAD OR ALIVE?"

"WHAT TRIGGERED THE CROWN PRINCE'S FALL? WE THINK HEART FAILURE!"

Simon continued to scroll through the headlines in disbelief. They got steadily more unrealistic, but Simon, still in a fragile state of mind, couldn't help but wonder if many were true after all.

"Sh!t man..." Ayub said, leaning over Simon's shoulder to read off the phone.

Simon started to shake slightly, not enough for him himself to notice, but Ayub did.

"You don't still like him after what he did to you?"

That's when Simon broke down into silent tears, sliding off the bed to the floor in a heap of confusion, sadness, and fear.
