|| #7: need a ride? ||

"Hargrove?" Billy Hargrove. Of course, Kathy knew him through Max. He's a colossal dickhead, and that's being generous.

"The one and only." He grinned, and Kathy shivered. She'd rather walk home than be caught dead in his car, even if she'd be huffing and puffing back at the cabin.

"You looked distressed, Princess." That made Kathy physically ill. Only one person called her princess, Billy didn't have the right. "Saw your little... demonstration, at lunch and figured you'd be on your own."

"Thanks an awful lot for your concern, but I'll be fine on my own." As Kathy turned to walk away, she felt a hand on her wrist.
"C'mon, Max is staying behind at the cult club with your sister. I got an empty seat, you don't even have to look at me."

As much as she wanted to tug her wrist away and have an empowering moment, especially after her insulted her sisters and her new friends club, she really didn't want to walk home.
"Fine. Don't try anything." And with that the pair walked to Billy's blue Camaro and set off.

The whole car ride was filled with silence except the music coming from the radio. He knew the way to her house, he'd picked Max up from there a plethora of times, so he didn't need to ask her anything about directions.

Just as 'Material Girl' started to play they pulled up to the Hopper household. Before the girl left, Billy spoke up. "Look, I know you hate my guts for whatever reason," because you're a womaniser, she thought "but if you ever need anything don't be afraid to ask. I actually care about Max and her friends. Don't tell her I said that."

Kathy was slightly stunned at the confession, she didn't know what to say to that. "Okay, thanks." It was awkward, sure, but she couldn't think of anything right now, still occupied with the events from earlier in the day.

She left his car and retreated to her bedroom. Of course, her father wasn't there, so the dirty blonde was left alone until Eleven got home. She tied up her hair, threw off her shorts and just cuddled up in Eddies shirt, drifting to sleep to avoid thinking about her troubles.

She woke up to the phone ringing. She was terrified to answer, of course, what if it was Willow trying to apologise, or even yelling at her for hiding away from her?

Running a hand over her tired face, she hesitantly grabbed the phone and brought it to her ear. "Hello?"

"Hey, Princess." When she heard Princess for the second time today she actually smiled. Him saying it just felt right.
"Hey, Edmund. Need anything?" She tried to sound upbeat, but Eddie couldn't help but catch the strain in her voice.

"You okay? I saw what happened earlier and I just... I needed to know." He sounded nervous to ask, but his shy voice made Kathy's heart swell. She'd never had someone solemnly ask if she was okay in forever.

"I'm... fine, I guess. I mean, I felt embarrassed, betrayed, vulnerable, guilty." Kathy vented.
"Guilty?" Eddie wondered out loud. Out of all the things she said, he questioned that.

"Yes, guilty. You heard Willow, right? I feel bad about keeping you a secret." There was a reason, of course. She wanted to keep him safe from the torment he'd get from the jocks, more than what he usually gets, anyway.

"I don't mind being your dirty little secret." Eddie teased, it made Kathy blush, she could practically hear is shit-eating grin. Thank god this was over the phone, he'd surely keep on going if he could see her face.

"Look, let's go somewhere to cheer you up. Something fun, not just milkshakes and studying this time." He suggested, that sounded like an amazing idea.

"Wait, now?" As much as she'd like to go out now, the sun was setting, it had to be late. Plus, she looked like a zombie after her 3pm nap.
"Not this very second, but maybe at like- 8?"

Kathy took the time to check her clock, 6:14pm, not as late as she expected. "I can be ready by 7?" She insisted. She knew she didn't need to completely dress up, Eddie wouldn't care and plus, she wasn't in the mood.

"Perfect. Seeya later, sweetheart." With that, he hung up, leaving Kathy with a smile on her face. Kathy started to get ready instantly, brushing her hair and picking out an outfit, which consisted of an off the shoulder, red sweater and mom jeans.

She left Eddies shirt on her dresser, she'd wash it and then return it. Yes, she'd definitely return it.

When she was ready, it was 6:47pm. Her dad was probably home by now, he never worked nights on a Monday. "I'm going out with Willow!" Kathy said as she walked past the living room to the front door.

"Okay, be back by 9!" Her dad replied.
"Of course, dad!" Kathy said before she shut the door behind her and started her journey through the woods. It would take about 15 minutes from here to Lorna's, at least that's where she assumed they'd meet.

Thankfully, she was correct, as she saw Eddie leaning on the side of his van with 2 milkshakes in his hands. "Hey, sweetheart!" He spoke cheerfully, attempting to give her a hug, struggling with the milkshakes.

"Hey, rockstar! Thought you said no milkshakes?" She smiled up at him, gratefully accepting the milkshake he'd offered her anyway. As always, hers was white chocolate, while his was strawberry. Kathy fucking hated strawberry.

"This is only the first half of the date, Princess. I have a plan!" She raised a joking eyebrow at this.
"Yeah, what's your plan?" She asked while biting back a smile.
"It's a secret, duh." He replied, like it was obvious.

"To our chariot, Princess!" She giggled at his antics, while he opened the passenger seat door for her. The van smelt like weed and cigarettes, just like him. She already felt better as she turned and saw his face looking back at her.

"You ready, Princess."
"As I'll ever be, my Prince."
